HONFLEUR, BAYEUX,& MONT-ST-MICHEL
We will be staying a week in Normandy at the above locations.Two adults.
Please recommend accomodations ( hotel or B&B 80-120 euro) and resturants of quality and character. Thanks. |
Honfleur: B and B--Cour Ste. Catherine-great value for the $$, super location, wonderful, helpful owners.

We were in Normandy in Nov. 2005 and stayed in a wonderful B&B about 1/2 way between Mont St. Michel and Bayeaux (actually closer to Bayeaux). A working farm with a lovely and warm hostess and a great breakfast (always a plus in my book). She showed us many books on the area with devastating photos from the end of WWII. We had a very quiet room and a lovely stay. The owners name is Odile Delalande and her website is below:

We also stayed at B&B - Cour Ste. Catherine. Loved it. Wonderful people, accomodations, and very affordable (cash only though). We got an upgraded room and it had a fridge (which was so nice). We had an early departure our last day and she bagged up some croissants and baguettes for us to munch on in the car.
Honfleur is a wonderful town! We also did a day trip to Etretat and loved it. Worth climbing the limestone cliffs. |
Surfmom, I wish we had made a detour to Etretat, also. It was in our plan en route from Les Andelys to Honfleur but we spent more time along the way, etc. Shoulda, coulda!
Not to contradict you, and I may be mistaken, but I think Cour Ste Catherine accepted our credit cards (May of '05), and we had expected to have to pay in cash from what we had heard. Nothing on their website addresses this, that I could see. If it really matters to someone, he/she could email to find out for sure. I also wish we had spent more than one night in Honfleur--next time! :-) |
grandmere, you may be right about credit cards. I know we paid in cash, but that may have changed.

That's a nice review and picture; and I see you were there more recently than I, so you are probably correct about the cash only.

We are als0 interested in going to honfleuer and mont-st. michel. However, we only have 2 nights. How long is the drive between the two points? Where would you suggest we stay. We are interested in seeing DD sights one day. |
At Le Mont I was happy with Hotel Le Mouton Blanc. Not very expensive (I don't remeber exactly but well under 50 euros).
It has been in use as a hotel for several hundred years. I had a nice small room, ensuite. The ceiling had huge beams. The food was good, try the local lamb. They didn't have a website, but I faxed my reservation request and that worked fine. And the fax calls turned out to be only a few cents. Keith |
Just saw L'Absinthe inn (and restaurant) on the Samantha Brown program, and the hotel looked charming. Both have been recommended here at various times.
The drive from Honfleur to Mont St-Michel can between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the time of year, the traffic, and the weather. In two days you could see both and a bit of of the landing beaches as well. |
