Honfleu Accomodations
 

We've narrowed our Sept visit down to 3, any thoughts?<BR>1. Hostellerie Lechat - seems quaint reasonably priced at about 84 Euros across from cathedral<BR>2. Hotel Castel Albertine - 65-85 Euros a short walk from town<BR>3. Hotel Le Cheval Blanc - 80-100 Euros with waterfront views<BR><BR>We will only be there one night so I am not sure how much a view comes into play. Just wondering if anyone had experience with this locations.<BR>Thanks for any help, Mary Ann<BR><BR>

We stated at the Hotel des Cascades last June--a &quot;quaint&quot; experience. The Hotel Le Cheval Blanc is pretty highly recommended. It would be hard to go wrong with anything in Honfleur---it is such a pleasant site.<BR><BR>Regards,<BR><BR>Jinx Hoover

We stayed at Cheval Blanc - location and views wonderful. Rooms perfectly acceptable but nothing special.<BR><BR>Search on hotel name for my review posted here at the time.

Here, I found it:<BR><BR><BR><BR><BR>After the late lunch we arrived in Honfleur at about 4.30 when it was very crowded with weekend visitors. We found the hotel easily but unable to stop infront, we had to park in a pay and display round the corner, unload from there, before Pete put the car into the space we had booked through them a little distance away. I would strongly advise thinking about parking before staying in Honfleur. Pay and display would not be cheap over the whole stay. <BR><BR>The Hotel Le Cheval Blanc has a wonderful location looking out on the outer harbour. It is not directly looking out over the internal basin harbour which is featured in the pictures but is only yards away from that and you can see it from the windows at an angle. Perfect location. Rooms were quite small and very ordinary, considering I booked deluxe, but they were clean, and comfortable and had a harbour view. Ruth and John's room was smaller, and newly furnished and decorated, making it a little more attractive, ours was larger, being on the far corner, with lookouts in two directions which was a bonus, but with old, dated and tacky wallpaper, linens and furniture. Good size bathroom though plain, but with nice strong shower with hook attachment so can shower standing up. No A/C but swung the windows open. Both rooms were fine but nothing to rave about, however I would definitely stay here again for the location, view, comfort and friendliness. Friendly and helpful reception staff. Also the hotel offered a plastic card which gave discounts on local attractions, we used it once each for a discount on the boat trip. It also gave discounts on the horse and buggy rides around twon, local museums and purchases from local farm shops. <BR>

We stayed at the Cheval Blanc in June 2000, and if I had written a review it would be exactly the same as Kavey's.<BR>(Hi Kav)

Regarding Hostellerie le Chat - if you're staying there on a Friday evening, reconsider. The Saturday market sets up beginning at dawn just below the hotel - it'll wake you up earlier than you wanted to be awakened.

I have a question regarding Honfleur: My friend and her 10 year old daughter are going on a cruise in August. One stop is Le Havre. She is debating whether to take the bus trip to Paris or just hang out. Would Honfluer be fun for them to shop, tour, eat and hang out all day?? They will be in port about 10 hours. She feels the day trip to Paris wouldn't be worth it.<BR>I tend to agree, but don't know much about the sites around LeHavre.<BR>Thanks,<BR>MichelleY

I haven't been to Le Havre so can't compare, but I think a day trip in Honfleur from that cruise would be perfect in terms of shopping, eating, picturesque-ness and there are a couple things there to do other than that. There are several museums, for example. One is a local folklore/decorative arts museum, another is a maritime musem, yet another for local artists (fine arts), and the final is the home of the composer Erik Satie. <BR><BR>I only had time for the latter, and it is extremely creative and innovative for that type of thing. If you know anything about Satie or that period of music and the avant-garde French composers at that time, you will enjoy it.
