Honeymooning in Italy - where should we visit?
We want to spend 8 days in Italy mid-March 2004 for our honeymoon.
We definitely want to visit Rome, but want to visit one other area. (We were thinking of the Amalfi coast) Any other suggestions? Thanks! |
Hi.
The wether can be iffy or I would suggest in Rome out of Venice. But, after you see Rome go south to the Amalfi coast. There is so much to see that 8 days is not enough and I assume you want to relax. Get a great hotel in Ravello and stare at the sea. |
In March stay south--split your time between Rome and Amalfi coast.

We did N/Central Italy for our honeymoon. One of my friends did Rome and Amalfi and loved it, the pics of Positano are gorgeous! We plan a Rome/Amalfi trip some day, so yes-I'd recommend that. If you can get more than 9 days an excursion into Umbria would be romantic too!

If you plan on staying on the Amalfi Coast, do check to see which hotels and restaurants will be open before you set your heart on any one place.
We visited there in March and some of the hotels recommended on this site were not open until April 1. I'm not sure if they were just doing typical renovations and were closed for a week here and there or if it was just the off-season and they were closed during the winter. Rome, Florence and Tuscany were terrific in March and we had glorious weather as well. Happy Planning ! |
Definitely Positano and Portoverne!!!!

even in March, there's no place in the world more romantic than Venice. stop in Florence for a day for the Uffizi gallery and Michelangelo's David, then at least a night in Venice. stroll the walkways, take a gondola ride (it's worth the price), climb to the top of the tower in St. Marks Square (better yet, the one across the canal if there are long lines, which is doubtful in March). you could do it all in 2 days if you leave early in the a.m. from Rome, but I suggest overnight in Firenze, then the next night in Venice. trains are very inexpensive. make sure you reserve seats. the Amalfi coast is wonderful when it's warm (the Hotel S. Michel in Anacapri is beautiful), but save that for your next trip. you have more than enough time to see everything in Rome. ciao
