Honeymoon to Italy
 

Hi - My financee are planning our first trip to Italy as our honeymoon. Our travel times are late April early May. We really want to stay in a very nice romantic hotel. Any suggestions? We are thinking of Rome, Milan, Venus and Florence for approximately 10 days. Any suggestions would be so appreciated. Thank you.

I'm sorry I can't help with romantic hotels but I'm pretty sure you want to go to Venice, which is in Italy, and not Venus which is a planet. It's easier to find information when you spell places correctly.

I do think 4 cities in 10 days is too much. Do your 10 days include travel time?

Sorry, I shouldn't laugh at typos, but I think Venus might be too hot and lack the sort of atmosphere you are looking for.
Venice is very pleasant at that time of year.


I think four cities in 10 days is too much - even if you are flying into one and out of another. Effectively it gives you only two days in each plus travel. I would pick two and split your time between them - three at most. There is easily enough to see and do in Rome to last you far more than 10 days on its own. Venice and Florence can be done in a couple of days, but you barely scratch the surface of either.

I cannot help with Hotels, but I am sure bob and other Italian experts will be along later.

I agree. It isn't very romantic when you arrive jet-lagged and have to rush, rush, rush.

The idea of Rome is romantic, and there are lots of romantic places in Rome, but it is a big city by any standard with lots of bustling around and big crowds, and that doesn't even include the tourists!

Venice really is the most romantic city in the world, and it should be pretty wonderful at that time of year. If I had ten days, I would spend four nights in Venice and six in Rome, with one day lost to jetlag and another pretty well lost to getting from your hotel in Venice to your hotel in Rome.

That is a subjective opinion. I find Florence more romantic than Venice personally.

I do agree that 4 cities in 10 days is too much. I would choose two cities and split your stay, also using open jaw tickets to fly into one and out of the other. You can always plan a day trip or two.

I would also agree that 4 stops is too much.

We spent our honeymoon in Italy last year (part of a larger trip) and spent 4 nights in Vernazza and 5 nights in Rome and had a great time. If you rush too much you will miss the romance of Italy.

Maximum I would do Rome,Florence, and Venice, flying into Rome and out of Venice. Ideally, I'd pick 2 locations.

It sounds like to me I should just stay with two cities. With that said Venice is a given and Rome or Florence? Beleive it or not this to me is needle in a haystack, I have never traveled this kind of a distance. Little confusing, but I just want to make the right choices. The 10 days will include all travel time. We would be flying out of Boston so if there are any airline recommendations that would be great. Much thanks to all.

If your 10 days include travel then you really have 8 days to enjoy Italy and that says 2 destinations. Start in Venice and end in Rome because departing from Venice can be a real hassle--train between them. Here are some Venice hotels to consider---Venice is never inexpensive. Good luck !

I would recommend Venice (4 days) and Rome (4 days) for your two cities. Rome because it offers more diversity of sightseeing than Florence. Fly into Venice and home from Rome and take a train between the two. You can buy train tickets when you arrive in Venice.

As to flights - it depends on the best prices and non stop flights. I would check Continental and United to see if you can get a non-stop flight at a good price.

I respectfully disagree.

I would agree with the statement, "IMO, Venice is the most romantic city in the world" as that expresses an opinion. But to state that "Venice is the most romantic city in the world" - that presents it as a fact, which IMO, it is not.
