honeymoon suggestions please!

Hi. We are planning to go to Italy the last 2 weeks of April for our honeymoon, but have not made arrangements yet. I'd love some suggestions! We both love beautiful scenery and great food. I am looking forward to a place where we could take long walks and sit at outdoor cafes and eat and drink and watch the day go by. We are considering Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, maybe a day or two in Rome. Any thoughts? Also, please comment on the weather that time of year (we'd really like to be able to be outside for a lot of the daytime hours.) Thanks!

From north to south, Italy's temperature will vary a lot at that time of year. Also it will change day to day at any location. Weather in the north half will be generally pretty cool with some rain. In the southern half, temperatures will be warmer, but frontal rains will still occur.

For the specific areas you are considering:
-Tuscany will generally be cool with occasional to moderate rain.
-Amalfi coast will be warmer, with frontal rains every few days.
-Rome will also be a bit warmer, with the same frontal rains.

From what you have said your interests are, you could enjoy Rome or some of the smaller villages of Tuscany equally well. Outdoor cafes in Rome will be a bit more comfortable than in Tuscany.

On the other hand, Tuscan food is great. I'd choose to go to a few Tuscan villages and enjoy the food, the people, the scenery, and the general ambience---and just tolerate the cool weather. But with two weeks you might want to spend one week in Tuscany and one in Rome. Good luck.

I have gone in April several times and, apart from some rain, it is a good time to be in Italy. I would start in Positano for at least 4 nites and end in Rome--with a healthy dose of Tuscany in the middle. It will be a great honeymoon--buona fortuna !

PS,

Except that we stayed in Praiano, abt 3 miles east of Positano, at the Le Sirene Hotel.

campfire,

My wife and I enjoyed a great honeymoon in April 2003 that sounds similar to what you are looking for. Here is the trip report:

During our honeymoon last October we visited Rome for 4 nights, the Amalfi Coast for 4, Tuscany for 5, and then one final night outside Rome before our flight home. This worked our very well for us. If this is your first time in Italy, I would spend more than a day or two in Rome.
