Any suggestions on where to stay for romantic honeymoon next June? <BR>

Hello Still Free, I never was, and we <BR>just celebrated our 40th. We did 8 weeks <BR>in Europe but one of the highlights was <BR>Austria. I would fly into Munich and get <BR>your car there. Drive to Salzburg but I would not necessarily stay there. About <BR>30 miles easr of there you come to the <BR>Lakes of central Austria. This is the <BR>" Sound of Music" country and very nice. <BR>My pick would be to stay in St. Gilgen, <BR>a small quaint village on the west tip of the Lake called Wolfgangsee[see means <BR>Lake in German] What a place--you will <BR>think you are in a movie set. From here <BR>you can day trip to Salzburg and to the <BR>other small villages in the Lakes and <BR>the Mountains. Certainly, Hallstatt is <BR>one you cannot miss, and there are others. We were there on a Sat. and the whole village was involved in a double wedding at the local church. Two brothers got married, not to each other, and the village was all out in <BR>their native garb. I have been to most of Europe on 15 trips and have <BR>planned about 46 more for others, and this place turned me on---ROMANTIC !

Bob, saw your post about the Lakes District. Maybe you could help us. <BR>Our 14 day trip (Germany & Austria) is <BR>starting in Frankfurt..2/3 nights on the Rhine....2 nights Rothenburg....4 nights at Burghotel Falkenstein in Phonten(not sure of the spelling) at which time we plan on taking "Wes Fowlers" tours of the area, including day trips to Munich. After that, we thought we'd drive to the east of Saltzburg and stay there for our last 5 nights. I realize the weather won't be great, but we've stayed in Ireland in Dec. and loved it. So, with that in mind, are you familiar with any of the following: Pension Wenglhof, St. Gilgen am Wolfgangsee...Sport-Aparthotel Alpina, St.Johan.....Gmachl,Bergheim bel Salzburg......Hotel Mohrenwirt,Fuschl-am-see(may be closed after Oct.10th....Hotel Bergrose,Strobl. <BR>Any thoughts on our itinerary would be so appreciated. Hello Denise, I think St. Gilgen is the <BR>best location to stay to see the area. <BR>I saw the Pension Wengelhof and it looked very typical and nice. We stayed <BR>at the Haus Schernthaner--a pleasant <BR>3 star where the Eisl family makes you <BR>feel at home. She speaks ecellent english. Boat to St. Wolfgang and drive to <BR>Hallstatt and the wedding chapel at Monch . You will love it. <BR> <BR>

Definitely fly into Munich. You will save A LOT in car rental. Prices are MUCH higher in Austria. <BR> <BR>The whole country is beautiful.

Hi, SF&S, <BR>Have to recommend Duernstein, up the river a couple of hours from Vienna, especially the Hotel Richard Lowenherz - see http://www.duernstein.at/LOEWENHERZ/index-e.htm <BR>Converted monestary (irony there?) with outrageous wine terrace, very cute village, good walks through vinyards or up to a ruined castle (where R the L was held captive)... <BR>The Schloss Duernstein hotel is fancier and a little fussier, but beautiful also.

Sorry, I said monastery (and mis-spelled it at that) when I meant convent. You get the picture, though.
