Honeymoon Itinerary

Fellow Fodorites......i've been reading and receiving many postings...its fun to read everyone's opinio and get psyched for our trip to Italy!!!!!

Here's our honeymoon itinerary so far, tell me what you think...

Land in Rome, train/hydrofoil to Ischia
Ischia - 4 nights
Sorrento - 1 night (take bus to Amalfi for views)
Rome - 3 nights
Florence - 10 nights (we have a free apartment here, hence the 10 nights...will go out to countryside for a few days and also relax)
Venice - 2 nights
Orieto - 2 nights (Dolomites, will drive here from Venice)
Varenna - 2 nights (drop car in Como)
Vernazza - 2 nights
Outside of Rome - 1 night
Fly out of Rome...

The extended stay is due to the free apartment....(gotta take advantage of that!) I was thinking of staying in Sienna or Orvieto for a night (instead of Florence). Travel will be by train (except from Venice to Dolomites to Como). Will by my third time in Italy, wife's first....let me know what you think!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks

Wow Josh--can I go along? I promise to be no bother. I hope you are young and energetic. You will have a ball--no pun intended.

Dear Josh,

How I envy you the time you have to spend in Italy! Since you asked, and if it were me:

Ischia - 4 nts
bus to Positano or Ravello - 1 nt
Rome - 4 nts
Orvieto - 1 nt & pick up car
Umbria/Tuscany - 5 nts
drop car in Florence

Florence - 4 nts (say thank you for the free apart, but use only half that amount of time. I can't imagine staying IN Florence for 10 nts & trying to relax! Florence, IMHO, is the least relaxing destination you mention.

Vernazza - 2 nts
Varenna - 2 nts
pick up car in Como
Dolomites - 3 nts
drop car in Venice
Venice - 3 - 4 nts

Fly out of Venice if at all possible.

This seems fine. You seem to have much time. An entire month, I think. Why not a round the world airfare?

You could spend 2 weeks in Italy than race around the world for 2 weeks. Australia is interesting but it isn't in Europe so I shouldn't mention it in this forum!

I agree with the other poster who suggested heading to Ischia first. Otherwise, you'll have a very long travel day after a long flight when you land in Rome.

I would suggest something we've done many times, which is fly roundtrip in and out of London, then go on to Naples from Heathrow or Gatwick.

Good luck-- sounds like a wonderful trip!

Bob....ummmmmmmmmmmm, well......I was going to bring you along, but the wife (to be) shot down the idea......with all your help and everything, I figured it was like you helped plan the whole thing!!!! I am looking forward to the trip....

Since you have so much time in Florence, definitely do day trips at least to Sienna and take a vineyard tour (bus tours are available from Florence and can be booked there). Also a day in Fiesole is a nice change to all the museums etc. - reachable by local bus.

Congratulations, and have a wonderful time!
