honeymoon in spain

Hello All,

Looking for some advice and suggestions for our July honeymoon. We fly in and out of Barcelona and have a full 16 days. We are a young couple in our late 20s looking to relax with a little partying here and there. At the moment we are considering staying in Barcelona for a few days then flying to malaga and staying in Puerto Banus/Maribella then flying to Majorca and stopping in Ibiza before flying back to Barcelona. Our flights are already booked so we cant fly out of a different airport.

Hotel suggestions/ways to travel between locations/or other areas to visit would be a great help!!!!

Well it looks like you really want a beach honeymoon, which is fine - but you should know that the summer in Southern Spain can be incredibly hot - as in over 100 degrees for many days at a time. If you stick to a beach resort it won;t be so hot - but visiting Seville, Granada or Cordoba then will be incredibly uncomfortable. Whatever you do make sure all of your hotels and car have high powered AC, always carry water with you and be sure to stay hydrated.

For specific hotels we really need a nightly budget - but in the areas you are in I would stick with 5* to be sure of full services and AC comfort.

Take a look at Belle Epoque and medium sized San Sebastián at the Atlantic coast. The culinary capital of Spain (16 Michelin starts in a city of 180 000), some of the finest city beaches on the continent, the European Capital of Culture in 2016, beautiful landscapes and great nightlife. A favourite for Spanish and French summer visitors for more than a century, not least beacause of the climate.

If you want to splurge, stay in Hotel María Cristina right in the middle of everything. A three minutes walk to both the Parte Vieja/Old town with the world famous pintxos and fabulous bars on every corner and the two main city beaches, shell-shaped La Concha (meaning The shell) and surfers favourite Zurriola:

Villa Soro might also be an excellent option for a honeymoon, but not as centrally located (10 mins walk to the Zurriola beach, 15 to the Old town):

About San Sebastián in NYT this August:

A short trip from Barcelona. Fly to Bilbao in one hour. Direct bus from the airport to San Sebastián in 70 mins.

A look inside a suite at Mariá Cristina in this promo video for the European capital of culture candidature. At 1.10:
