Honeymoon in Scotland or Italy ???

Hi! I know this is a random choice but we're trying to decide between a honeymoon in Scotland (a driving tour beginning in Edinburgh) or one in Italy (Rome and the Amalfi Coast).

If you have any input on the two destinations based on the following questions, I'd appreciate it!

Is mid-March a good time to visit?

Will too many attractions be closed? (Especially in Italy - can we find transportation to Capri, etc.?)

Is 7 or 8 days sufficient?

How are road conditions (especially Scotland)?

Any other comments or suggestions????

Thank you!

My husband and I were in both Scotland and Italy and this is a no brainer....Italy is definitly the place for romance!March is a great time for Italy. Everything should be open. Scotland will be quite chilly. We were in Scotland in July and at night, it went down to the 40s farenheit in Edinborough. Italy is just the most beautiful place we have ever seen.We have been to 10 countries and Italy we would go to again and again... Arrivideci!!

I think it depends what you're after (ha ha!)

It will not be warm in Scotland. However it should not be snowy (but don't take that as a guarantee) and it should not be icy.

If you stay in nice places and visit lovely landscapes you could have a fantastic honeymoon in Scotland. Think of snuggling up in front of log fires.

A lot of visitor attractions don'e open until Easter; but the main ones are all year. And the scenery is never off duty.

Hi lippy,

I've been to both Scotland and Italy and I vote ITALY!! The weather will be warmer, although on the coast you might find rain, fog, and cooler weather than in Rome. The Italian scenery is more beautiful. And, the driving is easier than in Scotland.

Just got back from my honeymoon in Italy. Florence, Venice, Rome...words can't express how wonderful it was. I am still so sad that I had to come back home. Go to Italy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of Italophiles on fodors, but I vote Scotland. Yes, it will be chilly, BUT is there anything better than snuggling in bed in the chill, sipping whisky in front of roaring fires in Victorian hunting lodges, and wild windswept landscapes? We did a driving tour of Scotland for our honeymoon, and it was lovely. The roads are all in good repair and well signposted, and NOT crowded, which makes for a wonderful driving experience. We stayed at absolutely wonderful and romantic hotels, and saw stunning scenery. Italy in March is also likely to be damp and chill, but with fewer amenities (like heated towel racks mmmm) to compensate for it. If you want Scotland hotel suggestions, I have some great ones, just let me know.

Do you have time to see Wales too? Much of the English countryside is too beautiful for word to express. How many days do you have to spend? Although I love Italy, UK is always me favorite but it will be chilly. Congrats on the upcoming ((%))
