Honeymoon in Paris
 

Hi everyone, I need yourhelp please. I'm spending a 5 days honeymoon in Paris, it will be August 1 till 6, it will be on my way back to Dallas. I need your suggestions on romantic places, romantic ideas and romantic things to do, I'm doing the planning and wanna surprise my sweetheart with my romantic side.

Have you already booked a hotel? If not, there are some very good prices for 3* and 4* hotels. Be sure your hotel has air conditioning; August can be quite hot and sultry.

One romantic thing to do would be to have dinner at Lassere, a beautiful 2* restaurant with a ceiling that can be opened in the evening. Very nice! Wandering around the Tuileries Gardens at twilight is also quite romantic; you can walk across to the Seine.

Actually, I'm thinking of reserving in Hôtel Saint-Germain-des-Pres (http://www.hotel-paris-saint-germain.com/) I saw that they have 4 nights for the price of 3, for 150/night, what do you think?

There's a guidebook called "Romantic Paris" or something like that by Thirza Vallois that you should check out. You can find it at most Borders and Barnes and Nobles stores; I suspect Amazon.com also carries it.

It highlights things that are of particular interest to lovers--tucked-away hotels, charming restaurants, interesting sites.

Then again, you'll be in Paris! That should be romantic enough!

The hotel and rate sound pretty good. And so is Thirza's boook--I don't know why I didn't think of it. Merci, Elle.

Thank you for Thirza's book recommendation, I looked for some reviews about it, and it sounds good, so I just ordered it from Amazon.

About the Hotel, I would like to treat myself for those 4 days, afterall it is my honeymoon which should come only once in a lifetime. So, any suggestions for great 4* Hotels, please keep in mind the romantic dreamy stay.

Have a romantic dinner in the garden of the Royal Monceau Hotel.

You mention that you would be interested in a 4* hotel. Hotel St. Germain des Pres is not a 4* hotel. Are you thinking of a 4* hotel located in St. Germain or closeby? There are a few like L'Hotel and Relais Christine which are small hotels. For a larger type of 4* hotel there are Pont Royal and the Lutetia.
Over in the Marais district there is a well-recommended 4* hotel called Pavillon de La Reine which is under the same ownership as the Relais Christine.

Les Rives de Notre-Dame is also a 4* hotel, with views of the cathedral across the Seine from the top-floor rooms.

On the Right Bank is the venerable Hotel Lancaster, a favorite of Marlene Dietrich (among many other famous names), and also the San Régis. Either of those would make for a memorable stay.

I have stayed at the Hotel St. Germain des Pres twice and it is a lovely place. The rooms are very romantically and uniquely decorated, with fine bathrooms, too. Ask for a room that does not face the street for a quieter stay. Don't know about A/C since I never stayed there in summer, but it's a true romantic Paris "find." Enjoy your honeymoon, wherever you decide to stay.

I looked into the Hôtel Saint-Germain-des-Pres a coouple of weeks ago.

That's a good price in a good location.

Check to see if they have AC.

Romantic things:

Sunday morning: Walk through the Parc Monceau, have brunch at the Jacquemart-Andre Museum, see the museum, walk to the Arc de Triomphe and stroll down the Champs Elysee to Place Concorde.

Stroll along the Quais of the Seine in the late evening.

Visit the Luxembourg gardens in the morning.

Bring a picnic lunch to Versailles and have it in the garden. The fountains are on on Sunday.

Take the Metro to Pigalle. Get the Montmartrebus (no. 18) to Pl Jules Joffre and back to the Sacre Coeure stop. Walk down through Montmartre to Pigalle.

Go see the Eiffle tower at night.

francophile03, any area that you recommend is fine with me as long as it is close or in downtown, and you think will great for a honeymoon couple.

nj9000, I'm happy that someone allready stayed in Hotel Des Sait Germain and recommends it. I e-mailed the hotel asking about the AC and here's their reply:

If the hotel allows you to cancel without penalty for a week or two before arrival, I suggest you book it.

The room might not be available in 2 weeks.

Hi, Hotel de St. Germain des Pres on rue Bonaparte is a good choice and I agree to book it now. It's in an excellent location as everyone who's been in St. Germain knows. There is no "downtown" just different unique neighborhoods or districts. If you mean location should be central then any area between the 1-6 districts are great as you can walk to many sights, shops, etc.

I reserved in Hotel St-Germain, and they were very helpful. They do have AC by the way.

They told me that they can arrange pick up for me:
"A Chauffeur Airport pick up is availabe at 90 euros or an Airport Shuttle pick up at 17 euros per person (27 euros for one person). In case you would like this to be arranged, please inform us of your flight detail (Airport, airline, flight number and arrival time)."

I found that the Chauffeur with 90 Euros is too expensive, and maybe I will take the shuttle option with 17 euro/person total = 34 euros. What do you think?
