I think jliven is seriously considering the Amalfi Coast - does anyone know what the weather is like there in october?

More than just considering it...I just booked my room at the Grand Quisisana for three nights, then to Positano after that. We spent HOURS and HOURS last night looking over websites, reviews, etc. and decided this is EXACTLY what we are looking for. I've already booked massages...I'm the type that once I get the place in mind, i go full steam ahead.

I am debating between hotels or a villa in Positano for the week. Any suggestions there? Someone on Fodors recommended CV Tours and they have been great, but the villa I really wanted is only available Sunday to Sunday so we would need other accomodations the first two days in Positano, and would then lose two days at the end as we need to be back in the states the following Saturday.

Thanks for all the help. Kate, all of those suggestions sound great, but we want something maybe a little more traditional. As it turns out, I called my sister last night to tell her the news and she is going to be in the Amalfi Coast two weeks prior. I had no idea. Weird.

I don't think you can be absolutely sure of good weather anywhere in Europe. I'd vote for Morocco as well.

I dont know if we've touched on budget. But we stayed at the Albergo Miramare. It was lovely, though we stayed in the Annex which was cheaper than themain building - but not as nice. They had a wonderful continental breakfasteach morning overlooking the ocean.

We had a lovely pation off of our room, and it was comfortable and centrally located (not too far away from the water but not too far up the mountain!).

The best part was the complimentary boat ride included with our room. It was probably our best day spent in Positano. You will have to check to see if they still offer the boat during the "off-season".

There are some very highly recommended rooms in this hotel. If you do a search you will find the #s.

Thanks....I am trying to keep my room and board budget under $800/day. I will look into that place

check out the Marincanto, Villa Rosa, or Le Sirenuse (more$$$). These places are not on the beach area but a short walk up from the main plaza.

I don't think you will have any trouble finding a place and having meals for $800 per day.

jliven23:

I can certainly appreciate the desire for more "traditional" experiences for one's honeymoon. While our trip was wonderful, I'm not sure everyone's idea of a honeymoon is spending a week alone with your husband PLUS a berber guide, sleeping in berber B&Bs (where you share the squat toilet facility with the goats).

But that definitely does sound like an upcoming Anniversary...so thanks for some places I certainly never even thought of.
