Honeymoon in March end - Greece, Italy or Spain?

Hi - we are planning our honeymoon vacation for late march 2012 (22nd and beyond) for about 12 days. Can someone suggest
1. What would be good country visit at this time of the year
2. If we could probably cover 2 of these countries (say 7-8 and 3-4 days each)
3. Which cities to cover, what we have thought for each country -
(a) Greece - islands of Mykonos and Santorini and maybe athens?
(b) Italy - Venice, Rome, Sicily, Florence
(c) Spain - Andalucía, Barcelona or Madrid
4. And last - any hotel recommendations would be nice

Overall we like clam, scenic places, probably near water (or beach).

Thanks

I would not pick coastal destinations in March.
I like both Sicily and Andalusia that time of year. Either will take 12 days to see well.

March is too early for the beach in europe - unless youjust mean walking on one while bundled up. By late April you can probbly use beches and hotel pools in southern Spain (we have a couple of times) and mid to late May for Italy.

If you really want a beach vacation then I would do southern FL, the Carib or Hawaii.

If you want to see europe - the most pleasant areas will be Analusia or Sicily. Not sure what will be open in the Greek island then.

End of March is still winter in Greece. Greek ski resorts will still be open, but island hotels and restaurants are mostly closed until May. The problem with combining Mykonos with Santorini is that in March there are no direct connections between the two, so you will have to return to Athens to get from one to the other.

Thanks for the replies. Discussed with a few more people and yes Greece seems far fetched at this time of the year. Between Spain and Italy, we're more inclined towards Italy for 12 days. Sure things we want to cover there -
1. Rome
2. Venice
3. Tuscany (suggestions - Siena?)

12 days exploring these 3 locations should be fine? Would it be worthwhile to explore Capri or Amalfi over Tuscany at this time of year. We really wanted to try one of the European island/beaches - though not at the cost of bda weather.

Sicily is much warmer than the rest of Italy in March---hence my suggestion. What weather do you expect?

Amalfi and Capri will be chilly and some things will still be closed in March. Take Bob the Navigator's advice and visit Sicily in March or, if you don't mind cool, possibly rainy weather, go with Venice, Rome and Tuscany. Twelve days is a good amount of time for either.

If you use the following website, you will see that historically, there is no difference in weather in Rome, Naples and Sicily for late March. The temperatures in all 3 places historically are in the mid-sixties. Contrary to what is being said above, Sicily is not "much warmer" than the rest of Italy in March on average.

Nobody can guarantee, however, whether you might get rain or even an unexpected cold snap for the days you are in Italy. Best thing to do is to plan a honeymoon where you book Rome and Venice, but leave the non-city portion of your honeymoon open. If it is sunny in the Amalfi, go there. (It is simpler than going to Sicily, and its seaside areas are nicer.) If it is not sunny in the Amalfi sunny in Tuscany, go there (but temps will most likely be in the mid-50s). If it is raining everywhere, consider Florence, Verona, Parma or some other charming place with a romantic atmosphere but nice things to do indoors.

In March, early April, you won't have trouble booking nice accommodations at the last minute, or renting a car last minute if you want one, so long as you avoid Eastertime (don't know when that is).

(Despite being further north, Venice will be warmer than Tuscany, probably hovering right around 60).

swalia,

You surely want to read this trip report from bobthenavigator about how much he loved his trip to Italy when he picked a coastal route to travel beginning on March 22, It includes how much he enjoyed the Amalfi coast at that time of year.

Thanks guys - for all your inputs. And thanks zeppole for the link - it realllly helped.
Going by this, we'll definitely make Italy - given we are from India and have experienced enough of the warm weather, don't mind a bit cool weather now. After going through the stuff - will make up our mind whether we should try amalfi / capri or instead try 1 city in france for like 2-3 days? Will search more - if anyone can share their thoughts on 2 days in france, would be helpful.

P.S: I guess most people like to spend a week in one place, since we dont come to EU so often, we might not spend more than 3 days at a place..so trying to cover 3-4 places in 12 days
