Honeymoon in Maderia in Nov
 

Hi - we are getting married in November & are thinking about our honeymoon. We live in Ireland & want to go to somewhere warm which is about 4/5 hours flying time away.<BR><BR>we are thinking about maderia but are wondering what the weather will be like then - will it be warm enough (20 - 25C) & not too much rain (have enough of that at home) <BR><BR>What would cyprus be like in late Nov? Any other suggestions?<BR><BR>thanx

You can never be 100% certain about weather in Madeira. Most times I have been there it has been December or January, and it has been 18-23°C and occasional showers. Once it rained every day. It does rain in Madeira, otherwise it would not be so lush (It is called "The Floating Garden of the Atlantic"). But once I was there two weeks in the beginning of November, and it was +25° every day and not a drop of rain. My clothes were all too hot. But it is really impossible to foretell. <BR><BR>As to Cyprus, it certainly rains less, and in the summertime there is not a drop of rain. But the rainy season begins in November, so even there you could find some rainy days. <BR><BR>But in general I would choose Madeira over Cyprus for a honeymoon. It somehow feels more "classy", and it is really beautiful. Troodos mountains in Cyprus are also beutiful, but I doubt that you had that area in mind.

Another vote for Madeira. It's the best medium-haul winter sun destination I've experienced. There's a great choice of luxury hotels at remarkably good low-season prices, good food, some of the most spectacular scenery in Europe, great levada walks, friendly locals and so on...<BR><BR>Sure it rains occasionally, but nothing like what you'd get in northern Europe, and most of the rain is confined to the higher altitudes on this mountainous island. Temperatures in November should be around 18C but it always feels warmer if you've just flown in from a colder place.<BR><BR>

I've been to Madeira twice. Once in Feb and once in April so I can't comment on Nov weather other than to say that in the last century and perhaps earlier it was a favoured wintering holiday destinations for Europeans, particularly Brits. It remained expensive and a bit snobby and upperclass only for much of that time though in recent decades is much more accessible and visited by more younger travellers than previously.<BR>It will still have a higher percentage of older travellers than some other destinations but we liked that much better than the clubby party night atmosphere in some destinations.<BR>It's beautiful, peaceful and a great honeymoon choice.

Thanx for ur replies. We've decided to go to Madeira - we want to go somewhere relaxing & it will be our only holiday in the year so we don't want to travel far or have too much to do when we get there.<BR><BR>We are now looking at the other threads on Madeira to decide on a hotel.<BR><BR>Susie
