honeymoon in italy
 

Hi all, looking to do a honeymoon in Italy in summer of 2014, I've been before to Rome and Florence and would love to see them again if possible (if not only to show hubby Rome/Colisseum/Vatican) but am looking for suggestions as to what else to see/do...tuscany, amalfi coast, all of italy is gorgeous and I'm just not sure where to start...I'm figuring we'd stay at least 8-10 days. Also, when I went, it was on a college tour, so we dealt with a train and bus to get around, would that be better for transportation, or is a car easy/affordable enough?

First, you have to answer the question of where you're going. Then you can answer the transportation question.

Just a guess, IMHO, you're probably going to have to provide more info on interests and priorities before you get answers here.

Decide the basics first:
WHEN---HOW LONG---HOW MUCH ???
That will determine the where and what.

I would do Rome & Venice While your in Venice you can do a day trip To Brano which is a short ferry ride,Also very pretty.

In summertime, there are many places in Italy I don't enjoy being for reasons of heat and tourist mob scenes. However, that may not be a factor for you and your husband. Many people shrug it off.

If you want to include the scenic parts of Tuscany other than Florence (the capital of Tuscany), you will almost certainly need to rent a car.

For a trip of less than 10 days, if you want to go to Rome and Florence, if you think you want to go to the Amalfi, you should probably go directly there when you arrive in Italy and just enjoy a few days relaxation. If you can fly into Naples and out of Florence, great. But if you end up flying in and out of Rome, go to the Amalfi first anyway, Florence second and Rome last.

If your agenda for Florence is limited, it is possible to do it as a day trip from Rome.

If Rome and Florence are a "given" for your honeymoon, then if you want to add the Amalfi as well, go to the Amalfi first. For an 8 day trip, I would do 3,5 Amalfi, 4.5 Rome, with a day trip to Florence.

Last time I was in Italy it was July and it was hot and busy - but unfortunately I'm a teacher and have to take the extended honeymoon in the summer. I'm thinking the trip would be a minimum of two days. I'd love to see Florence again, want to show the hubby Rome (the forum, colosseum, vatican, etc.) and from there am unsure as to what to see.
