Honeymoon in Italy
 

I am working on planning a 2 week honeymoon in Italy for September of 2012. I have traveled a fair amount in Italy, but my fiancee has never been to Europe. She is part Sicilian and would love to go there. I would like to hit Rome, the Amalfi Coast, and Tuscany (wine tours!), but am having trouble trying to plan enough to hit a lot of the highlights but not feel to rushed since it is our honeymoon.

Obviously this itinerary presents some issues and need some help sorting it out. Any help would be appreciated.

Where are you flying in from? That can affect where you start and which city you fly home from.

I would plan to stay put for a few days in whichever city you do arrive in as you will be tired after the wedding and probably a bit jetlagged as well. Venice would be a very romantic city to start your honeymoon. Then you could work your way south. Rome is an easy train ride away (about 4 hours).

I would suggest that you don't try to see too many places on this trip, just take it slowly so that you have lots of special memories.

With two weeks, I suggest no more than 3 destinations. Those could be either Rome, the Amalfi Coast and Tuscany or Rome, the Amalfi Coast and a town in Sicily. Sicily is worth 2 weeks by itself. Combining it with two other destinations means visiting only a small area. Where is your fiance's family from in Sicily? That might inform your plans.

You could fly into Rome and head immediately to either Tuscany or the Amalfi Coast. Have a restful first few days, continue to your next destination, end in Rome and fly home. As much as I absolutely love Sicily, I would save it for another trip when you can do it justice. Either that or visit only Rome (4 days) and Sicily (10 days).

Good advice. You could fly open jaw, into Palermo and out of Rome. Palermo [6 days]. Then fly Palermo to Naples [one hour flight] www.kayak.com and take a taxi to Amalfi coast that takes about one hour [3 nights]. Train to Rome [5 nights] Perhaps one day trip to Orvieto [one hour by train] Happy planning. Richard
