HONEYMOON IN ITALY
 

We know what we want to do but need advise for budget hotels en suite. Leaving US June 30th we want to Fly into Venice for 2 nights, go to Trieste for one night to visit family, Tuscany one night, Florence for 2 nights, a stop in Pisa on our way to Rome for 3 nights. Then go down to Capri for 3 nights, Palermo for one night visiting family and back to US.
I am familiar with the local trains I did a similar trip while in college. At that time I found hotels on the go but can't do that with my new bride. Can anyone help me with decent but inexpensive hotels? All responses will be greatly appreciated.

You can get much more useful answers if you tell us exactly how much you want to spend per night. And I know you didn't ask, but this will be an exhausting trip, certainly not what I would want for a honeymoon! Seven hotels in thirteen nights--you will mostly remember trains from this trip.

In Venice, check out Hotel Marin, www.albergomarin.it. If you need a hotel in Trieste, I liked the Alabarda, www.alabarda.com, which was very reasonable.

I agree with SusanP, this honeymoon will be exhausting. Do you really need to make these out of the way (Trieste and Palermo) ONE night visits to family on a honeymoon? Just by cutting those two cities out would make this trip so much better. Palermo is a long,usually overnight train trip from Naples. I just don't see the logic in making that trip for only a night. Because Florence is in Tuscany, why don't you stay in one place, hopefully using the extra two nights from Trieste and Palermo, and visit Florence and Pisa from this base? And yes, a hotel budget per night is necessary to recommend decent but inexpensive hotels.

I agree- consider spending all of your Tuscan time in one place. Pisa is a quick bus or train ride from Florence, and can probably be done in an afternoon.

Another option to consider is spending some time in the hilltown of Fiesole, naer. It's a 20-minute bus ride, but has a very hilltown atmosphere. We spent about 5 hours there, and really enjoyed the change of pace. You could also consider an overnight there to really soak up the ambience.

The rest of your adventure is not what I would consider a honeymoon.

If you are going to Florence, why are you stopping in Tuscany for one night?

Have you considered how you will get from Capri to Palermo and how you will get back to the US?
