Honeymoon in Italy?
 

My fiancee and I are trying to find just the right location for a 7-10 day honeymoon next August.

Where in Italy can we get:

Sandy beaches, warm water, great views?
Nice hotels, great local restaurants that aren't going to break our bank?

Ischia?

Any suggestions?

We'd like to stay away from the larger cities and just hang out and soak in the culture of a smaller seaport/fishing village.

Try Ravena area (on Adriatic) or Camaogli (over the hill from Portofino but miles away in character and environ) or lake district - Lago Maggiore or smaller towns around Como. Some people love Bellagio but I think it is over priced but yet it is charming. There are also some very charming towns in Umbria around Lago Trasimeno. I'm only familiar with Northern Italy. I'm sure there are hundreds more all over Italy. Keep checking - someone will come u with the one you want.
It will be hot and very touristy in August but hey it's your honeymoon who cares! Ciao

I would avoid any of the best beaches in August. They will be packed solid with Italians and Germans. I would do Lake Como and the Dolomites in August.

Avoid the Amalfi Coast-it's jam packed and the beaches are far from sandy. It's a nice place, just not in August or it you plan on alot of beach time.

The only place in Italy that I can think of that meets all of your requirements would be Sardinia. If you start looking for hotels now you will have some good choices that won't break the bank but make reservations as soon as possible as Sardinia fills up fast in July/August.

Naxos/Giardini near Taormina is a good choice. But it is expensive.

We just returned from a lovely stay in Rapallo which has lots of lodging choices, local restaurants with wonderfully fresh seafood. Santa Margherita Ligure just down the coast is also nice. But, it will be a zoo in August as a pervious poster said and the prices will be $$$$. No bargains here.

Is the beach a must? Perhaps the Tucany region would be a good option. There are some wonderfully private hotels and inns there. And Florence is my favorite city, very romantic and beautiful and good deals abound in August.

I also like the Dolomites.

The Italians (and most Europeans) all take Holiday in August and you will pay a premium for the beach resorts.
