Honeymoon in Italy
 

My fiance and are are honeymooning in Italy. We arrive Oct. 25 and depart Nov. 4th. We want to see Florence, Pisa, (Tuscany), Genoa??, Milan, Lake Como and Venice. What would be a good itinerary? We have thought about Rome, but don't know if it is a "must do". Any suggestions on a good itinerary. We KNOW we want Tuscany, Lake Como, and Venice, but don't know how long for each............

Angie, do those days include travel time? If so, I don't see how you could see all those locations in ten days. My husband and I last spent four and a half days each in just Florence and Venice and still didn't get to see everything we wanted.

With factoring travel to Italy, as well as between all those cities, you would be spending all of your time just traveling place to place.

My honest suggestion would be to limit your ten days to only two cities. Perhaps splitting your time between Florence and Venice would be your best option, according to your wish list.

as Statia said, you don't have much time. You don't mention where you are arriving and the total number of free days you have, but I will also round it to approx. 10.
IMO, stick to the basics - Rome, Florence, Venice (at least to me, they are the basic cities I started with on my first visit to Italy)

In my opinion, if you fly into Rome (as most people I know do), I strongly suggest you spend a couple of days there anyhow, either the first two or your first/last. You can take a bus tour or otherwise just take in the sights and it is quite a vibrant city. Don't bother doing everything - "must-do's" are a personal choice, anyhow. Just stroll around the piazzas, throw a coin in the fountain, enjoy it!

Do Florence in 3 days (with an optional 4th) and take a day trip to surrounding areas, i.e. Siena.

Don't skimp on Venice, it is magnificent and exceedingly romantic - perfect for a honeymoon. I recommend 4 days minimum.

Thanks....We arrive in Rome on the morning of the 25th. How about the following:
Oct. 25 & 26 Rome
26-30 Florence (Tuscany)
Oct.31-Nov.4 Venice

Any recommendations on where to stay? We will be renting a car so drive time will be a factor, but we're early birds so we would probably be driving to the next town before anything is even open...

Are you big art fans? If so, Florence is heaven and I would recommend staying more days there. If you not, you may want to spend 4 days in Rome, as there is so much to see there:
Oct. 25-28 Rome
29-30 Florence (Tuscany)
Oct.31-Nov.4 Veniceto

Be sure to look for open jaw flights, flying into Rome and out of Venice, or vice versa.

I agree with jamikins...that is if you really want to fit in all three cities. I haven't done Rome myself, but understand that even a week there is not enough time. Florence and Venice, on the other hand, can pretty much be covered in four days each, although we still had some items on our list we didn't get to with that amount of time.

Definitely look into open jaw tickets, as well. Good luck!

This looks good. You won't see much of Rome, but you will get the flavor. Don't forget to throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain so that you will return.

For Florence, you have enough time for a daytrip to Siena.

Is there a reason why? There are very good, inexpensive trains from Rome to Florence to Venice. You won't want a railpass.
