Honeymoon in Bath
 

Here's the plan:
We're splitting our September honeymoon week between Bath and London - we want some time for relaxation and some for energized city life. We'll arrive in London very early on a Monday morning & take the train to Bath where we'll stay for 3 nights before returning to London.

We don't plan to have a car - both of us are anxious about driving in a new place. As such, we're looking at Bath for its convenience and distance from London. We are definitely interested in a spa experience while in Bath. Otherwise, we're planning for some R&R, low key exploring, etc.

The hotels we have looked at thus far are:
- The Queensberry
- The Paradise House Hotel

Any feedback on these choices? Or just feedback in general??

The Tourist Information office is right next to the Abbey, and 2-hour walking tours leave from there a few times each day. It provides a great overview of Bath.

This is a great restaurant:
www.popjoys.co.uk, and the restaurant in the Royal Crescent is also lovely (and pricey), I think the current name is Pimpernel's.

Sally Lunn’s, at 9 North Parade Passage, one block from the Abbey, is in an historic house. Many tourists go there, but I think the quality is excellent. You can have lunch, dessert, afternoon tea, or candlelight dinner. www.sallylunns.co.uk

If you want a day trip from Bath, take the Stonehenge,Avebury,Lacock,Castle Combe tour.

The Paradise House is a lovely, small hotel just a short, uphill walk from the station. The owners will suggest some nice options for dinner.

..If you want to have a side trip (assuming no car), you can take the bus to Wells. a very pretty town with a beautiful cathedral.

i've been to bath twice and can only say that it is a very picturesque, beautiful town. very colorful in spring/summer. a river runs thru it and the garden (walk down the steps to get to it) is very relaxing on a warm summer day. the roman baths are very interesting if you like history. i think you've picked a great location for some R&R

I mentioned this before, but definitely consider the local bus to Wells to see the stunning cathedral and nearby Close.

Also think about Glastonbury. It's one of the epicenters of all the Arthurian legends (King Arthur and Guinevere were supposedly buried in the Abbey)and there's also the touristy "Chalice Well" and the legend of Joseph of Arimathea. You can see the remains of the old Abbey, and my favorite experience -- hiking up the Glastonbury Tor. It's a beautiful and highly atmospheric spot.

Or, you could stay put in Bath and wander the gorgeous streets and surrounding hillsides. Have a great time.

Eating out in Bath can be expensive. If you like Thai food a good value restaurant is Mai Thai in Pierpont St.
