honeymoon hotels
Hi, could you recommend hotels for a week in Paris in August for a honeymoon? We'd like to spend around $350 (or less) and be in a very central location. We both like to walk, and it doesn't matter if we're on the right or left bank. We definitely need air conditioning. :)
Specifically, does anyone have any experience with the Regina Hotel? Thank you! |
Hi J,
You can spend a lot less than $350. What are your rquirements? If you save $100/night on your hotel you can have dinner at Taillevent and LaPerouse or Alain Ducasse and Jules Verne, etc. ((I)) |
Hi.. welcome to the forum.
Common etiquette here (not expected, nor "required" here - - but just a good practice) is to mention the destination in the message header. In fact, it's in the "recommendations" that Fodors itself makes - - one problem is that they hide those in such a way as to make it rather unlikely that a new registrant would find them! Click on "HELP" (tiny little red letters, upper left hand corner) and you can read their FAQs... and specifically (my own emphasis added)... http://www.fodors.com/forums/faqs.cfm#Q6 "Finally, create a title - make sure it is concise and clearly describes your message (<b>and destination</b>, if applicable)..." Thus, it would be a good idea (will help you get better answers, and it's more considerate to everyone here) - - to re-post, and mention <i><b>Paris</b></i> in your message header. Whatever your hotel decision, congratulations on your new life in marriage... and... Best wishes, Rex |
topping... good chance that jenaug2006 has not figured out how to find her way back to this her first-ever post (and only, thus far).
Fodors ought to e-mail her and tell her she has replies (and coach her how to find the FAQs and how she might out a more effective message header on this question). After all, they have her e-mail address. I surprise that e-mailing this thread to [email protected] would be a good idea, huh? Ought one suppose that they will take action in response? |
Argghh...
I <u>suppose</u>... not "I <i>surprise</i>"! |
topping, and also
I stayed at the Regina several years ago. Some of the bedrooms at the time were definitely in need of renovation, they were clean but tired looking. The public spaces (lobby, etc) were grand but also a bit faded. I rush to add that since then the hotel may have had the needed work done. Have you checked tripadvisor.com for comments? The Regina's location is excellent, surrounded by a choice of metro stops and walking distance to the Louvre, Place Vendome, etc. There is a landmark golden statue of Joan of Arc just outside, and the Tuileries Gardens across the street. I have a long file on Paris; if you'd like to see it, email me at [email protected] |
I got a brochure of Hotel Regina in the mail (one of those magazine cards you check the boxes and mail it off)....looks really plush to me. I also got Hotel Raphael and Hotel Majestic. Those brochures are the closest I'll ever come to seeing the inside!
|
The Regina is plush only if you get one of the best rooms--the rest are small and some are a bit shabby. For $350 you almost certainly won't get one of the lovely rooms shown on the web site--ours had a tiny bathroom, and the room was long overdue for redecorating. It was extremely disappointing, and there was no chance of moving. The staff tend to be what I'd call uppity. But the location is great.
However, for your $350 you can get a very nice room with a view at the Hôtel Madison, right on the Blvd. St-Germain-des-Prés (but no traffic noise, as the hotel sits behind a teeny "place"). |
Thank you for your responses! I did not know how to get back to the post until fodors emailed me. :) (Thank you, Rex.)
|
Modern? How about the Montalambert?
Left Bank - I think St. Germaine |
Wow! Fodors actually e-mailed you!? Terrific. I have proposed this dozens of times- - and it could be totally automated - - the FIRST time any one (any new registrant) posts their FIRST-EVER post - - they could generate an e-mail, telling you: "this is the URL of your post".
Maybe they will really do it! :) |
That would be a good idea. This was a personal, not automatic, email though. So the system isn't in place yet...
|
You might also consider looking for a nice apartment rental for a week. My husband and I rented one in Tuscany for our honeymoon, and loved the ability to "play house" right after we got married. It's nice to have a home base.
