Honeymoon help please!

We are starting to plan our September 2004 honeymoon to Italy. We are going for 12 days and would like to see Rome, Florence, Venice, Sicily and the Amalfi Coast. Right now we are pretty much clueless as to what order we should visit each place. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Twelve days is barely enough time to see three of those places, let alone all five. I would definitely drop Sicily on this trip; it's your furthest destination and Sicily is a large island where you should spend 12 days alone to begin to see it properly. I would stick to Venice, Florence and Rome or Rome, Florence and Amalfi Coast.

With the greatest of respect I think you should look at a map to orient yourself geographically as to where these places are in relation to each other. Once you've done that I think you might conclude that in order not to have to "backtrack" the "order" would be Venice, Florence, Rome, Amalfi Coast, and Sicily or the reverse.

You may also decide what a lot of people are going to tell you: that in the amount of time (12 days) that you're trying to see TOO much. How really accurate that is depends entirely on you, what you like to see, how fast you travel, etc., so I'd take the "you're doing too much" responses for what they're worth. It's YOUR trip, not theirs.

I'd also suggest buying a guidebook for Italy and doing some research on your own otherwise you'll find yourself simply tossed and turned by many varying opinions. Good luck.

I agree with Grinisa in that three of those cities would be the max...at least for me.

However, I also agree with Intrepid that no one else knows your travel style, so only you know how much you want to attempt.

My husband and I just returned from our first trip to Italy in July and we spent five days in Florence and five in Venice. We felt it was the perfect amount of time to do and see the things we wanted. You can also do day trips from both cities. I will admit, however, that one day in Venice was devoted to renewing our vows, so we really had only four there.

Good luck in your planning!

I agree with the other posters. Rome-Florence-Venice would be plenty in twelve days, OR Rome-Positano (or Sorrento)-Capri. I don't think you'll enjoy the trip if you try to do it all. Save some of these places for your next trip!

Have a wonderful time, and post again if you need further help!

Hi.

Do the 12 days include your flight days? If not, then you have only 10 days. Rome, Florence and Venice are possible in that time frame but you might be cheating yourselves. In any event, Rome and Florence for three days each and four days in Venice would be my recommendation.

Good luck!...and let us know what you decide and how it turns out.

You're welcome.

Thanks for all the fast responses. I guess we are trying to do too much in 12 days! But, we're not very "slow" travellers. We could see a lot in a short time, but we also want to relax since it's our honeymoon! I'll post again once we do some more research- I'm sure we'll need more help!

Forget Sicily--that is another 12 days.
With 12 days IN ITALY you could do the other 4, but you will need an open jaw itinerary--into Venice, out of Rome or reverse. If you really have 10 days for tourism, then pick 3 not 4.
