Honeymoon Help!
My fiance and I are in the midst of planning our honeymoon from June 26 to July 20, 2006. We've decided to go to Sicily for a week and then to Greece - Athens and a few islands. Santorini is a given, but we are uncertain of which other islands to visit - I think I'd like to go to Crete and one other - Naxos? Hios? Hydra?
Also, any suggestions for the Sicily portion of the trip would be great! Thanks! |
Hi... and welcome to the Europe forum (a "place" that some uf "us" treat like a second home)...
It's a common custom... and courtesy... here to include info about your destination(s) in your mesage header. Would you please re-post... and mention Greece (or more specific locations within Greece) and Sicily in your message header? Whatever your decisions, congratulations on your new life in marriage... and... Best wishes, Rex |
See my trip report for Sicily at slowtrav.com for details on a 15 day itinerary.

I was preparing to give you a lecture on the birds and the bees - now I find out you only want to talk islands.

Hi Leen! Spent my honeymoon last summer in Italy and Greece. We spent 3 days Athens, 4 days Santorini & 4 days Mykonos...
I loved Santorini, but found Mykonos even better. Definitely check out Katikies in Santorini. Mykonos is not just for kids - we met another couple on their honeymoon in our hotel and to this day, we are still great friends! If you want a great beach, stay in Mykonos and go to Psarrou...all my best! (I think Hydra, etc, may get a bit boring - Mykonos is full of life!) |
We honeymooned in Greece in August. It was the best ever! We spent 1 1/2 days in Athens. It was plenty of time to see all the major sites in the city. We then flew to Rhodes for 4 days and took a day trip to Turkey. Flew to Crete for 3 days. My favorite island in terms of things to do and see. We rented a car there and drove all over the island. Beautiful villages and towns and the gourge was amazing! Then ferried to Santorini for 2 1/2 days. Stay in Oia! DO NOT STAY IN FIRA! You will have a much better time in Oia, prettier and more romantic. If you do want to get to Fira, or anywhere else on the island for that matter, just take the city bus. We then flew back to Athens for a night and then back to DC.
We LOVED our trip. Though, if we could do it again, we would have not spent so much time on Rhodes. Great island, but no need to stay 4 days unless you LOVE laying out on the beach under umbrellas that cost 12e per person to rent. Otherwise, you can see the sites and get beach time in 2 or 3 days. We used the most reasonable and fantastic travel agent to book hotels, transfers, and flights (and 1 ferry ride) between the islands. We started to book ourselves, but they got us tons more for tons less money. If interested, google "fantasy travel greece" and they are one of the first to pop up. They are located right near the Plaka in Athens. Have a great time and cheers to you both! |
Thanks to all of you for your info so far.....Jacksons, did you use Magical journeys or Fantasy Travel?
|
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. We used Fantasy travel. Patra helped us.

Just a vote for Hydra. Stayed there for 3 nights on our honeymoon (also went to Mykonos and Santorini), but started in Hydra. Hotel Bratsera was lovely....just a beautiful, calm island with lots of personality.

But we also found nightlife in Hydra (everynight we hung out with the locals that worked at hte hotel), we actually had a much crazier, but authentic experience than we had in Mykonos hanging out with other Americans.
