Honeymoon Help

I am planning our honeymoon to Italy for the end of September. After much research, this is my proposed itinerary:

-NY to Venice-
3 nights at Pensione La Calcina

-Venice to Florence- (via train)
2 nights Hotel Silla

-Florence to Spoleto/Spello- (via car)
3 nights in either Hotel San Luca in Spoleto or Palazzo Bocci in Spello

-Spoleto/Spello to Siena- (via car)
2 nights at Palazzo Ravizza

-Siena to Lucca- (via car)
1 night at Palazzo Alexander or B&B La Boheme

Pisa to NY

I am wary of spending too much time running from place to place, so please let me know if this pace seems too frenetic. Thanks for any advice!!

I think it looks fine but I also enjoy seeing alot and don't mind moving around. My only advice...pack light! Getting around by train with a ton of luggage is exhausting. I always pack only one suit case that is not too big.

We stayed at the San Luca in Spoleto for two nights on our honeymoon...romantic. Walk across the bridge towards the old fortress. It is so beautiful!

Also - eat dinner at Il Tempio di Gusto. Very romantic and excellent food. Have your hotel make reservations in advance (Barbara from HOtel San Luca recommended it to us). They took great care of us at dinner since it was our honeymoon.

Have a great trip.

For me, this is way too much in short period of time. I am not one to rush through and see the highlghts. I prefer to stay and really explore a town or city.

Hi book,

If you don't mind the packing and unpacking, it's fine.

You might want to consider dropping the 2 nights in Florence and adding 1 to Venice and 1 to your motor trip through Tuscany.

You can bus from Siena to Florence for a daytrip.

You are absolutely right about the time going from place to place. I always underestimate the amount of time that takes. If you go to Michelin or Mapquest for driving times between locations, add on at least 20-30 minutes more for traffic and getting lost. Also, why rush? There is usually something wonderful along the way. Stopping along the way allows you to make the drive another interesting part of the trip and not just a way to get from here to there.

Your trips sounds very nice. Going back to the time issue, the only thing I would change would be to drop Lucca. That day could be added to Venice or Siena, although my preference would be to add it to Venice especially since this is your honeymoon. Venice is magical and oh so romantic!

We still haven't gotten to Lucca or Volterra or Monteriggioni on two trips to Tuscany because there just wasn't enough time, yet we enjoyed every minute and wouldn't have changed a thing. There are so many charming towns to visit in the areas of Spoleto and Siena that you can certainly save Lucca for another trip and not have any regrets.
