I know. Very annoying You pay extra to check a bag of 15 and then 20 kilos. We will not be dragging huge suitcases all over europe. We opted to borrow backpacks from friends. We are non-fussy travelers. We paid for the 15kilo for now, you have the option of changing the amount up until you check in.

Here is another option for Begur: Hotel Aigua Blava. We spent our honeymoon there 11 years ago and loved it. Beautiful water views. They put us in a lovely room with a terrace. Very romantic. It's popular in August with families, but when we went in June it was very quiet. I'm thinking you'd be OK in October. The Dali Museum is so much fun. We didn't make it to Cadaques, and I regret that.

adjiidoll,
I agree with Pvoyageuse that you will miss the most scenic part if you take the motorway all the way to France. His/her itinerary suggestion is great. To save a little bit of time, you could take the motorway to Tossa de Mar, get off there (it's beautiful, especially the medieval fortress overlooking the sea)and stay on the coastal route from that point on. We didn't have time to drive into France, but it seems to me that with a week you do have enough time to see Costa Brava & Collioure & Ceret in France. Someone did a trip report to C & C last year; I think her name is Isabel. Her report might be interesting for you to read.

Thank you so much kwoo and nanecam. I will look into both your suggestions. We will also follow your advice on taking the scenic route...we aren't in a rush for anything anyway and will be spontaneous with the majority of our hotels along the way but have a few written down for each town.

>I live in California and I'm assuming it's similar to the pac coast highway.<
Me too. We drove from Barcelona to Collioure last May and the route didn't remind me of any section of the PCH! Got a great price at Hotel Le Bon Port.
