Honeymoon at Amalfi Coast

Hello - we are planning a honeymoon in August and have only 6 full days. Our focus is the Amalfi Coast, and here goes with the questions:

1. What is the best spot to set up camp? Some folks like Praiano while others vote for Positano. We want a place on the cliffs of the sea, but that also has a town/village we can walk into for cafes etc.

2. Should we bother trying to do Rome ina day or two, or just save it for whn we have more time?

3. What about Naples? We are flying direct from NY in and out of Naples. Should we plan a day in Naples on the way in or out, or should we just stay at the coast?

I really appreciate all you have to offer. Thanks a million.

skip Rome and focus on the area.
Grab a few guide books and figure out what you really want to do and see in the area- Naples may not rate your list (it didn't on mine).
Have at least one day without a plan.
capri
Pompeii
amalfi/positano
sleep in and shop

I agree, skip Rome this time and also skip Naples. Get to the coast and enjoy your honeymoon. Enjoy the sun and sea, relax, eat some great food and wine, do a little sightseeing.

Opinions on areas of the Amalfi Coast vary widely. Everyone loves it, but settling on which town is always up for debate.

We do like Praiano; quieter, smaller, beautiful views, but still restaurants and small groceries around. We like to buy cheese, wine, bread, and fruit, and sit on our patio and enjoy lunch while looking at the sea.
We have always stayed at the Onda Verde

Hangs on a cliff, every room has a sea view, terrific restaurant at the hotel. A little pricey for some.
The Hotel Margherita also looks nice for less money but we've never stayed there. www.italyby.com/hotelmargherita/index.html

I'm agreeing with highledge ....

base in Positano ... add a half day in Ravello to your plan .... and yes, leave a day unplanned ....

Thanks so much. Are there any advantages of staying in Positano vs. Praiano, or vice versa? Does either have a better town area as far as cafes, bars etc.?

donnied - why positano vs. praiano? where in positano would you recommend? i hear all this hoopla about room 210- at the miramare - is it truth or hype?

Hi R,

>Are there any advantages of staying in Positano vs. Praiano, ....

If you stay in Praiano, you can look out at Positano, which is better than VV.

>Does either have a better town area as far as cafes, bars etc.?<

Positano is larger and has more of the above.

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Le Sirene in Praiano.

Thanks, Ira. We have 6 nights - should we do 4 in Praiano or Positano, and then 2 on Capri? Or should we just stay put no the AC and day trip to Capri?

Also, August is peak time. Would that influence whether you stayed in Praiano or Positano? Also, what can we expect as far as crowds? Is it going to be torture to try and get into restaurants?

Whatever you decide, I would book your rooms right away. It is my understanding that August is very much peak season on the Amalfi Coast.

Le Sirenuse is the best place on earth. If it's too pricey, consider staying somewhere for the first 4 days and moving there for the last 2 days of your stay. It is SOOOOO ROMANTIC and INSANELY NICE.
