Honeymoon & Itinerary Help!
 

Hi. I'm new to the forum but I'm glad I found it. I am in the initial planning phase of planning our honeymoon to Italy at the end of June. We are planning to spend 3 nights in Rome, 3 nighs in Florence, (maybe a night in Tuscany, or we could just make that a day trip and spend a fourth night in Florence), and 2 nights in Venice.

I am planning to fly in and out of Rome to save money but I am open to suggestions. The best fare I can find right now is about $950.00/person round trip from Boston. (British Airways)

I guess I am looking for any suggestions that anyone might have to this proposed itinerary and if you think I can get away with not using a travel agent. Also, is this the best I can tdo for airfare? I'm 28 years old and have never travelled to Europe so any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hard to say about the airfare, but seems you could do better than that from Boston. It depends how much chance you want to take in NOT buying until closer to the date of travel, and see what sales come up. That can drive one crazy, watching for sales every day. But for that price, I would think you could fly "open jaw" which means you'd fly into Rome and out of Venice, saving you the time of backtracking to get back to Rome.

Will you be renting a car?? or doing the train?? Email me if you need any other info.

Interesting book that my cousin gave me, to find "convents" in Italy that rent rooms, and provide some meals. Run by nuns to raise money. Often very interesting buildings in the heart of town. It is called "bed and blessings". I think, for instance, they list 3 or 4 in Venice. We stayed in one in Sienna.

Oh gee, there's just never enough time is there?!!!

I'd spend at least one more day in Rome, maybe take it off Florence (sigh)...and of course, a day trip to Tuscany is really never enough either, is it?

As far as not using a travel agent...well, I am one, so I'm partial there! Although I am interested in why you don't want to use one! Trust me, a good agent can save you time and money! The airfare you mentioned seems high to me..a good agent may be able tio find you a better fare as well as plan a great itinerary for you.

You're a bit early for good June airfares to Italy. You should be able to do much better in the mid-February to April time frame.

I agree with the statement of looking a little early for airfare. When you get a little closer, you might also want to try looking at some of the ticket consolidators. We used www.justfares.com twice now and have had no problems.
