Honeymoon after Destination wedding in Florence

My Fiancée and I are having our intimate destination wedding in Florence on June 27th (we are a young middle-eastern couple 27 and 24 years old). We are probably arriving there 2 days before. After that we want to start our honeymoon which we will have about 14 days.

We like art to an extent, but we don’t want to spend All of our honeymoon just exploring that. Food is also important as i personally like trying new things. We are also looking for a place that is hip, if i may say, perhaps some shopping and nightlife to add in there.

I rather not rent a car as i don’t want to go through the hassle of finding parking…etc.

Right now we are thinking of spending the majority of our time in Italy, and then flying to Amsterdam for 4 days or so (as we both always wanted to go).

What do you think about taking the train up to Venice from Florence (after spending 3-4 nights there), spend 3 nights or so, then the train down to Rome/Vatican, also spend 4 nights (is it worth going to capri, it looks beautiful?). Then fly to Amsterdam ?

We are still thinking of all the options and didn’t book our tickets yet so we’re pretty flexible on locations and dates.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in Advance.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
Do you have 14 days not including your wedding night in Florence and the 2 days prior to your nuptials? Does the 14th day include your travel day back? With all the things you want to cover in Italy, taking into account the traveling, I would recommend you remove Amsterdam. If you can, then I do think covering all the cities you mentioned is possible. (Maybe Amsterdam is a 1 year anniversary trip. ;). With the university population in Florence, it will have a night life as would any major city.

Capri is definitely beautiful, but none of your destinations really has the hip factor that I think you're looking for. Amsterdam probably does.

Since you said you always wanted to go to Amsterdam, my thought would be to limit your time in Italy to three places that you REALLY want to see, and then fly to Amsterdam. I personally don't think you can do Florence, Venice, Rome, Capri AND Amsterdam.

Which one of those Italian destinations is the least important to you?

Let's take capri off the list, and just focus on Florence, Venice and Rome then off to Amsterdam.

What do you think about the following:

25-Jun Fly-in to Florence
26-Jun Florence
27-Jun Wedding Day
28-Jun Florence

29-Jun Florence
30-Jun Train to Venice
1-Jul Venice
2-Jul Venice
3-Jul Train to Rome
4-Jul rome
5-Jul rome-vatican
6-Jul rome
7-Jul fly to amsterdam
8-Jul amsterdam
9-Jul amsterdam
10-Jul amsterdam
11-Jul Fly back to Bahrain

Najifa, it is doable. Would I do it? Well I might avoid the Amsterdam thing, but I've been. I might also look at Siena as a nice easy transfer to a wonderful city or just stretch my time in Florence by day train trips to Pisa and Lucca.

bilboburgler, I rather not take day trips to pisa, siena or lucca and spend that time in amsterdam as we both always wanted to visit. I think focusing on 3 cities in italy in that time frame is good from what i been reading.

najifa, it sounds perfect for what you are interested in.

Najifa, then go for it. Have you thought about hotels in Amsterdam, international, olde-worlde with wooden beams (Brouwer for example) or maybe a barge?

i'm just about to start looking for hotels in Venice, Rome and Amsterdam. any suggestions? around the $200 more or less range. I wonder if some hotels do upgrades for honeymooners.

They may do or if nothing else they may send up a half bottle of local fizz. What you need to do it ask them which means you need to use their own website/email system rather than a platform booker (eg booking.com)

I'd start with tripadvisor for hotels, or follow some threads back on this site by city,

Thanks for your help bilboburgler.
