Advertising on this board is not allowed, however, I find this post interesting. Before it gets deleted, anyone hear of this organization or have any knowledge of it?

Since it doesn't cost anything, I don't see how it hurts. Why do people get so freaking sensitive about the slightest appearance of solicitation? If it bothers you IGNORE it. K - Because it's NOT ALLOWED, that's why. Because Fodors has allowed us this nice forum where travelers come to exchange ideas and information, and they've asked us to refrain from commercial posting. Because what &quot;sounds interesting&quot; to some people is blatant solicitation to others, and when you allow that, a huge number of &quot;replies&quot; to threads will be hotels, restaurants, tour companies, etc. promoting their own services, not individual travelers sharing their experiences.<BR><BR>There are many, many, many home exchange companies, several of which are free, and most of which have several years of experience and are very trusted.

No doubt all this correspondece is exciting - but since calling up this website only gets an error message, perhaps it does not matter all that much.

You get what you pay for, even on the internet. <BR><BR>In attempting to set up home exchanges, I have found that people on the &quot;freebies&quot; like homeexchange.com are more likely to drop out of plans, not taking the arrangement seriously. Whereas the more-established large companies, like homelink, which have been around for decades, draw people who are serious about their exchanges, and often have done many of them. <BR><BR>Anyone planning a first home exchange really should seek out an exchange with someone who has exchange experience.

The only thing that is free is the listing. I don't understand what makes this information offensive, as you would be thrilled to read about it if it was a recommendation from someone that has used this service.<BR><BR>Saying that there should be no advertising here is like the pot calling the kettle black. Fodors now has paid advertisers. Also, each time someone recommends a hotel, restaurant, car rental company, etc. the recommendation turns out to be free advertising for the hotel, restaurant, car rental company, etc.

I haven't used this company but I have used Homelink with one sucessful exchange to London in 2000 and another in the works for Paris next summer.
