home base in provence

Hello, My wife and I will travel to provence in may for 3 days
I have the first two nights booked in arles.
I am undecided if i should spend my last night somewhere else in the area.
was thinking of Avignon but heard it gets a little dodgy at night (outside the old town)
I will have a car.
After provence we will head to the cote dazure
was also looking near verdun gorge, maybe a little out of the way though
Any suggestions or tips

Just stay in Arles. You are really not going to gain much (if anything) by moving to Avignon for a one-nighter.

Agree with Stu. Moving for a single night is more a pain than an advantage.

I have to agree. I've made the drive from Arles to Avignon for a visit. I wouldn't change hotels, towns for the 1 night.

I have returned from provence and chose arles as my base. I hate to say i wasnt thrilled with either arles or avignon, but much rather enjoyed the country side and smaller places. just my opinion

You didn't "ask" the question of where you should stay in Provence. You just asked "Arles and/or Avignon". If you had described your "likes/dislikes" and "hinted" at a preference for "countryside" - Deb and I would have suggested about a dozen or so countryside locations that I think you would have enjoyed more than Arles.
