Holy week processions
 

I will be in Salamanca on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in Leon and Thursday and Friday in Santillana del Mar of the week before Easter Sunday. Can we expect to find the famous "procesiones" in these cities? Have seen them in Avila and Segovia and was very impressed.

There will be magnificent and quite solemn processions in Salamanca and Leon during Holy Week, every day.
bobthenavigator can tell you about the Salamanca ones he saw last yr. Many would say the processions of Castilla-León are equal in splendor to those of the south, some also declared of National Tourist Merit, although there are more brotherhoods in Seville, and those of Seville are the most well known and famous to the outside world and draw the most intl visitors. On your way from Salamanca to León, you might want to make a stop in Zamora to see those, which are equally famous, particularly the Procesión del Silencio on Wed. On In Zamora there is a Holy Week museum.
The most well known and longest of the León processions happens the eve of Maundy Thrusday, early morning of Good Friday, but you'll see a procession or two every day.
You'll be impressed.

I don't know about Santillana del Mar. It's a tiny little community, and I don't think Holy Week is celebrated with as much solemnity and passion in Cantabria as in Castilla, Andalucía, Extremadura or Murcia. I have a book on Semanas Santas con encanto, but it doesn't have a single listening for Cantabria.

It would surprise me if there are no Holy Week Processions to be found in the region of Cantabria. Comillas, home of the Universidad Pontifical and the Palacio del Arzobispo might be a good starting point (even though most of the students will be away). I would try Llanes (Asturias), Limpias (Cristo de Limpias), Laredo and the Monasterio de Santo Toribio (Potes, Picos de Europa). Many years ago I went to Mass at a Church called Monte Corona, in la Montanha west of Santander. People from surrounding villages would meet there and have a mini-fiesta (covered dish picnic) every Sunday. One of those places (or even the Cathedral in Santander) is likely to have a Semana Santa Procession.

While I'm sure you can certainly find Holy Week processions in Cantabria, what I meant is that I didn't know about tiny Santillana, (I too would look in neighboring Comillas), and also meant that I didn't have any in my guide in Semanas Santas con Encanto of National or International Tourist Merit such as the ones in the regions mentioned above.
Didn't mean to imply, Barbarita, that you wouldn't find any at all in the area.
Like NED, I'm sure there will be a large one on Maundy Thursday/Good Friday in Santander.
In my tiny little village of La Alberca , Cuenca province, there are Holy Week processions, the most significant one happening Maundy Thurs-Good Friday.
