Holidays away from home......

I am sitting here reading about all of these people taking trips, and feeling like going somewhere myself..If you could go anywhere for the holidays, where would you go, why, and what holiday pastime would you take part in? Thanks for humoring me and my wanderlust~M

Well . . . my husband, daughter and I are going to England for Christmas. We are looking forward to seeing the decorations, lights, etc. and especially the Messiah concert at St. Martins-in-the Fields, the Carol Service at St. Paul's and Tudor Revelries at Hampton Court. We are also going to be part of a Christmas afternoon walking tour.

Although we have all been to England previously, this will be the first time all three of us have gone together, so being in England together at Christmas will be a special holiday for us.

If I can find a CHEAP flight, I may go to some of the Christmas Markets in Germany - that is my inner wish!

Jane

I love London and have always thought that it would be so pretty at Christmas time with the decorations, that Dickens kind of feeling.But-I want to go to Paris!! It is beautiful every time I go there, Christmas would be great.I would like to go to Notre Dame for some kind of Christmas service,or St Germain De Pres, which I have been inside of but not for any service.St Chappelle for music, the Bateau Mouche to see the lights from the River, then go to some cafe and just sit and watch everyone walk by and drink a glass of wine..and we could exchange gifts over a Bouche Noel(sp?)..

Although Europe is tempting, if I could go anywhere and do anything? maybe I would pick some out of the way, island sort of holiday-maybe Tahiti? I know nothing about it except that it is beautiful and I would walk around in a sarong with flowers in my hair:) and we would eat exotic things, and the rest of the world would be far far away....kate (I hope you all get your holiday wishes)

I would take my family to London for Thanksgiving.I know they don't celebrate Thanksgiving there, but what fun to take the whole family, stay in a nice flat in Knightsbridge, if I have to cook, why not in London?? Then we would walk it off, wandering the neighborhood..after years of the same dinner in the same house, wouldn't it be a treat to move it all to another country..

Mia, I can truly relate to the wanderlust and dreamy romance of holidays abroad. But for this military brat with no real home, holidays are for home. My little house, with my cat (and maybe his new little sister?), all the decorations, music, friends, and preparing food that bears as close a resemblance as possible to what I've enjoyed overseas. This year, German wine and liquors and zweibelkuchen. Yummy! This way I get both that great homey feeling and my travel fix (for a while). Happy Holidays wherever you are!
