Holidays at Aptera Hotel in Chania Crete Greece
 

We are going to Crete on the 2nd of June for 2 weeks. This is going to be our first visit to Crete, we been to a few Greek islands on holidays in the past but never to Crete. Since we like quiet and relaxing holidays away from bars/clubs and noisy surroundings. We booked ourselves at Aptera hotel at Aptera just outside of Chania. We don’t know much about Chania and we are looking for suggestions, what to visit, where to go for food, any good restaurants? nice beaches near by, etc.

We will be visiting the Samaria gorge as well as the ancient city of Aptera which is near our hotel http://www.just-crete.co.uk We been told to go to the Vai palm tree beach on the South East side of the island. Any other suggestions?

I think it's too far to go to Vai. Crete is a very big island.

What sorts of things are you interested in?

Our favorite restaurant in Chania was a place called Tamam.
I don't know the address but it was located about a street or two up from the harbor.
We went two or three times and loved it every time!

We stayed at the Aptera Hotel in Crete. Nectarios, the owner is a wonderfully helpful person. Our experience was wonderful at the Aptera Hotel. We were very comfortable and had plenty of space in our room. The location was great with beautiful views all around. Ruins were so close by you could walk to them. We also walked to village center and had dinner on two different nights.

We visited Stavros beach while there and had a fabulous day. it was about 40 mins from Aptera and after visiting a monastery we took some back roads and landed at Stavros beach. It was probably the most perfect beach I've ever seen.

If we returned to Crete I would stay with Nectarios at the Aptera Hotel again. It was just so relaxing and comfortable there.

The address for the Taman restaurant is 49 Zambeliou It's an old Turkish hammam andwe intend to visit it during our trip to Chania. On the same street nearby at 31 Zambeliou is another good restaurant called Tsikoudadiko It's in a 16th century Venetian Loggia and specializes in Cretean food. Homemade tsikoudia and mezedes, homemade dishes, wine and music make it sound like another interesting option. I've also read that the "Well of the Turk"restaurant is one of the best in town and I've seen their web site and it looks good and perhaps a bit more expensive but worth the splurge. Lastly "Portes" restaurant located in olf town Chania at 48 Portu St has gotten some good reviews. Hope that helps..
