Holiday Inn-Venice
 

Hello,<BR>I'm looking for someone who stayed at the Holiday Inn/Venice-Marghera.<BR>I know it's about 10 km from Downtown Venice, but the web site says they have a shuttle that brings guest to a water-taxi etc...was it convenient and easy? <BR>thank you

Is this the one out by the airport? If so, they likely will take you to the water-taxi and water-bus (and road-bus) stop at the airport. The drive from the hotel to the airport is short, just up the road. Ease of getting a taxi/bus from the airport depends on whether a big flight just came in, but its a small airport and not so bad. <BR><BR>Nothing to see or walk to from the hotel, but it is pleasant enough. We stayed there the night before a flight, and we were the ONLY customers in the hotel that were not part of a tour group. <BR><BR>If its not that hotel, then, never mind.

If it is the hotel cap is speaking of, keep in mind that a water taxi from the airport costs about $75. If you can, stay on Venice proper. You'll be disappointed to have to leave at the ned of the day.

Trust me on this, you are going to want to stay in Venice proper. Staying on the mainland may save a few lira..er sorry, euros...but it isn't worth the commuting hassle and expense.

Hello Lucie,<BR><BR>I've never been to Marghera so I may be wrong, but I believe it's an industrial area. Maybe someone else can correct me on this.<BR><BR>Anyway, water taxis are outrageously expensive as has been said. <BR><BR>As others have said, there's really no substitute to staying in Venice. If cost is an issue, my suggestion is consider Lido di Venezia rather than Marghera, - or a lovely alternative is TREVISO, 30 mins by train.<BR><BR>Steve

Lucie - I stayed there in April (I was on business and needed something convenient with parking) They have a shuttle that takes you to Venice, the area where there is garage parking. You simply walk over the first bridge and start walking. The shuttle is (I think) about 7 Euro, I can't remember how late it runs. Convenient and easy. They do NOT have a shuttle to the airport, which I thought was a little odd. The land taxi ride there was about 20 Euro. Post here if you have more questions about the hotel itself.

Hi Sam !!<BR>Finally, the answer I was looking for !!<BR>We do have a car, so no need for a shuttle from the Airport.<BR>It's nice to know that the shuttle that the Hotel provide to get to Venice is easy.<BR>How was the hotel, restaurant ?<BR>Thank you very much !

Verrry interesting. We stayed there one night two years ago, and asked at the desk how to get into Venice. They sent us to the public bus stop, 4 blocks away, for an interminable ride. No mention of a shuttle at all. <BR><BR>We just had breakfast there, pretty much average for a city hotel. It is a little more like a US-impersonal chain hotel than others we've been to in Italy, but fine, if you like that sort of thing. The neighborhood around the hotel is urban-residential not industrial. <BR><BR>I personally would stay on the island, unless I had a very-early-flight issue (which we did at the time).

Lucie - <BR><BR>The hotel itself is fine, nothing special, very clean, big rooms, big bathrooms, the best internet connection I had in Italy. The lounge is in the lobby essentially - nothing special at all. The breakfast buffet was decent - the best part was the get-your-own espresso/coffe/cappacino machine (I buzzed my way through Venice for most of the morning). I wouldn't recommend dinner there, but if you ask at the desk, they'll give you a list of local places. We went to the one that was NOT a pizzeria - fabulous. The salads were enormous and the veal was to die for. Good luck.
