Holiday Inn in Paris
 

We will be staying at the Holiday Inn on Rue Elisee Reclus in Paris in Sept. Anyone know of this hotel? Stayed there? Is it close to train/bus? What is the area like? First trip to Europe, 32 days and counting... :) Thanks!

Holiday Inn is one of the bestmed&yacute;um class hotels in paris but at what time are you going in sept because if it is premier vision or pret e porte time then you!ll pay double for the hotel so check the dates..<BR>Opera,Montparnasse,Republique or Elysee<BR>You can stay at any of them..

If you can change that hotel, I think you should. At first, I thought that was a great location near the Eiffel Tower but then realized that is AVENUE Elisee Reclus and the HOliday Inn you chose is on RUE which is not really in Paris proper. It's just to the south across the peripherique (major highway surrounding Paris) from where the Porte d'Italie metro stop is. However, it's not even that close to that metro stop, apparently -- you can walk to it but it looks like about 1/4 mile or a little more, maybe. I suspect there might be a bus line that rauns alond that major street, but I don't know. YOu should be asking the hotel that kind of info. It's just a bland industrial/business area in the immediate suburbs of Paris. That is one of the "express" HOliday Inns, which I think are the cheaper, modern line of their hotels oriented to business travelers. There are some nicer HOliday Inns in Paris and France, some are older French hotels with some character (the one near Gare de Lyon, for example, and some Garden Court ones are that way, I think, but don't quote me on that). <BR><BR>In any case, if this is prepaid which it sounds like and you have no choice, I'm sure the hotel will be serviceable and at least things should be working and fairly new, but you'll have to spend some time traveling into the city and probably won't want to spend any time around your hotel.

It looks like an 'american style' business hotel. I'm sure it's very nice but not in a typical european sense. It is out of the way, about 3 miles to Eiffel Tower and Louvre. Maybe they provide shuttle service into the main part of the city, you should check. You can probably find their email by doing an internet search on the hotel name. Was this part of a travel agent package? Package deals frequently place you in out-of-the-way, American style hotels.

Thanks for the input. Yes, it is all pre-paid, booked through Expedia. I've had trouble locating the hotel on the map, didn't know there is both "ave" and "rue",thanks for that tip....I'm a first timer, can ya tell? Am a bit dissapointed that we won't be more centerly located, but as it is our first time I'm sure we'll have a good time.

mia,you can get specific info on the Holiday Inn site,great map and other info,even their e-mail for any questions you may have.You also should bring it to the attention of whoever is planning the trip,the hotel isreallyway out in the burbs!

I found a couple of comments about the Holiday Inn Porte d'Italie. The hotel was built in 1999 so it should be fine, and you'll just have a little trek in/out of city-centre.<BR>1. I have started to fret that we will be so far from the center of things, we can change hotel and I'm thinking of the "Citadines Apart-hotel Paris Tour Eiffel" in the 15th arrondisement, close to the Seine, also has a kitchenette, do you think that could be handy as well? The Citadines is in a more convenient location, near the Eiffel tower and very near a Metro stop. Change hotels if you can.

I believe that Citadines is a chain and there are a number of them in Paris...in various locations (obviously). You might want to do a little research before you book...imho.

Thank you all for your kind replies to this inquiry regarding our hotel in Paris. Unfortunately, we cannot swap our hotel a second time, but I'm sure we will have a great time, and this hotel is definitely ten notches above our previous arrangements! Joie de Vivre!

Citadines are great if you are in the mood to buy food and do some of your own munching at "home". I've stayed in a couple of them (although not the location you are considering) and recommend them highly.

Mia, Here's a map to help you get your bearings http://www.paris.org/Maps/MM/. The Citadines you mention is near the Eiffel tower and Seine. Were you able to switch to that one?

Thanks to all for your help and suggestions. We were able to switch hotels, we will now be staying at the "Citadines Apart-Hotel Paris Tour Eiffel". Much better locations than the Holiday Inn. And with a kitchenette will help with food costs, yes, munching "at home" will be nice. Thanks again, this forum is great!
