Hitlers eagles nest
how far from munich and kitzbuehel and salzurg by car Exact location and is it open to independent visitors on a daily basis |
Eagle's Nest is at Berchtesgaden. If you check a map you will see it is quite close to Salzburg. Haven't been there for years but had absolutely no problem in visiting on an independent basis.

Salzburg is very close. Munich not so close, but easy drive. Very beautiful vistas from the top. You would enjoy it if you like scenery and mountains. Good overlook on KOINGSEE LAKE also.

A bazillion years ago we reached Eagle's Nest by taking a bus from Berchtesgaden. They ran numerous times each day from the trainstation. I'm sure there's something similar these days. J.

Clonard: Just note that Eagles Nest is closed in the winter months. You did not say when you were going.

The "Eagle's Nest" is located above the town of Berchtesgaden in the Obersalzberg (over Salzberg) area.It is about a 45 minute drive from Salzburg. The approach to the Eagle's Nest house itself is by bus and you purchase tickets in the "Hintereck" parking lot. There are English tours. You can also hike to the top ( not easy!). You can also take a chair lift up from the town of Berchtesgaden and hike over to the parking lot or you can take the RVO bus from town.
