history book
 
I've been googling etc and looking around for a not too indebth book on french history. We hope to be traveling there this year and it makes travel more enjoyable. Thanks for any opinions.

The Green Michelin guide includes a fat chunk of pages devoted to an introductory overview of French history. The book is a good investment anyway, so you might want to pick up a copy of that book and see how much more you need.

I couldn't agree with you more. Take a peek at Alistair Horne's "Friend or Foe: An Anglo-Saxon History of France." It's a bit Paris-centric, but an entertaining narrative all the same.
