Hire car oneway drop off fee...Zurich to Hanover. Any way around it?

We are off to Zurich in Oct. for a tour of a factory (woo hoo :-( )then we were going to take a couple of days driving to Hanover for a Trade Fair and then the ICE train to Frankfurt for our flight home.
It appears that there is a hefty charge for a oneway drop off. Does anyone know a way around this?
Thanks as always.

Yes - what about taking the train across the German border and renting the car there? Assuming you don't want just to take the train all the way.

thank you, not sure of the logistics of this, but will now look it up, thanks.

Check with AutoEurope what they have in Weil or Loerrach, right across the border from Basel.

It appears that the fee is for oneway drop off, regardless of where we pick up and drop off. Its a fee for dropping off in a different location to the pick up.....I guess if we want to drive to Hanover, then we pay.
Thanks anyway.....now accommodation.....

You better check around some more. Maybe this is "Australian Thing", but if you order you car in the US through AutoEurope (check their website)and most other agencies, you do not have to pay a drop-off charge if you pick up the car (e.g. Weil or Loerrach in the Germany, avross from the Swiss border) and drop it off in the same country, even if it is in another city (e.g. Hannover).

Many years ago I stayed at the Parkhotel Kronsberg, close to the Trade Fair Grounds. I liked it then and it is still ranked by Michelin as "very comfortable", but it's not cheap.

Thanks so much. I think we are just going to bite the bullet and pay the fee. As its a work related trip, this was going to be the leisure componant of the trip, taking the weekend to drive to Hanover.
And I will check out your hotel recommendation, thanks.
