If it's for a wedding, the wedding planner should be able to assist.

Do a search for "Abiti da sposa e cerimonia"

or look in http://www.paginegialle.it for wedding & formal wear. I got a list of 10 for Florence - one of them must rent.

Though, if its for a wedding, black tie is not very common on the continent and for those that have it, usually many of the guests would have their own. I had a really hard time renting morning suits in Austria and it was crazily expensive.
