Hire a driver vs. Cab for six people

Message: We are traveling in Italy and Greece in September (after the Olympics) with two other couples. We are on the same flights and train schedules. I cannot figure out if it is better to make arrangements for a hired car to meet us at the airport/train station or to take cabs. It would probably have to be multiple cabs with the luggage, etc...Any advice and/or recommendations?

We are in same situation in Turkey and Greece at beginning and end of cruise. 6 people would require 2 taxis or would we be better off making arrangements for hired van to and from airport (arriving in Istanbul and leaving from Athens).

You didn't say if for how long you needed the car and where you are arriving. Do you need it the whole trip or just from the airport to the hotel. What are the details? If you're planning several stops in Italy, I'd say rent a van. They have cars that hold all these people. You could take turns driving.
Give more specific info, and you'll probably get lots of opinions.

Basically just transportation to and from the airports and train stations. We are not driving. THanks!
