Hilltown Buses

We will be in Pienza in a couple of weeks having taken a bus from Siena. We are interested in going the short distance to Montepulcino. Can we catch a bus to Montepulcino and back to Pienza at a reasonable time on Saturday? How about the same on Monday from Pienza to Montalcino? Also are there afternoon buses from Pienza back to Siena during the week. Thanks for any guidance you can provide. fordrock

If nothing comes up Rome2Rio can always be helpful.

I don't think you'll find much searching for Montepulcino. Try Montepulciano. Also do an online search for bus companies in the area. I won't say that I know, but I suspect that there isn't much for your routes and times.

I'll keep trying. Thank you and I'll will use "Montepulciano"

Why don't you look it up yourself? https://www.busfox.com/timetable/
Notice the big gap in mid-day service.

The historical center is about a 1 km. walk from the end of this line (Montepulciano Autostazione). The bus may stop earlier at Montepulciano Opposta S. Biagio, but the walk from there would be about the same distance. There's a "local" bus that circulates between these points and through the town (route FT1).

As far as I know, there is no direct bus service between Pienza and Montelcinoa, and you'd have to change somewhere which might make the journey quite long for the distance involved. I'd consider taking a taxi.

Thanks Jean. There apparently are buses but the times they return to Pienza are a bit sketchy. I'll be there in a few weeks and will try and remember to post my experience. I just don't want to be sitting there waiting for the Pienza bus at 7pm. Not a pretty picture. Thanks again.

Usually have to buy tickets before getting on bus I think - at station machines or at tobacconists if none at small bus stops.

You could ask at your accommodations or at the tourist offices for names of local taxis or drivers. Bus one way, and taxi back?

Thanks Tuscan:

I did enquire at our hotel and they provided the bus schedules to the two hill towns we're interested in seeing. Thanks for your feed-back. Now we can go and relax and enjoy the beauty of doing nothing.....
