hiking in the Tatras

Hi, My husband and I are thinking about hiking in the Tatras ( day hikes)and were wondering what experience folks have had in July. Earlier posts ( from 2006) suggested August was intensely crowded, and the trails in poor shape, but was wondering if July ,2013 might be a bit less crowded.
Has anyone stayed in Szcsawnica, Krynica or Muszyna, supposedly less crowded resorts close by? Looking forward to your reply

The High Tatras are a great choice. I have used Zdiar as a charming inexpensive base. The Bellevue Guest House offers good value for money. ( The resorts are expensive and you will meet few Slovaks
July may be slightly less crowded, but to avoid crowds begin moving Very early in the day and find someone who can explain the trail and hut system.
If it rains explore Levoca, Spis Castle and the ruins of the Carthusian Monastery NE of Zdiar.
I would not recommend this without a rental car.
