Ortisei is the most attractive of the Val Gardena villages IMO.

If you stay in Ortisei centre, this is what you get -

- an attractive, typical Tyrolean-style village.

Val Gardena has the advantage over other areas of easy access to several major lifts.

Castelrotto is quaint as Schuler says, but has no major lifts - so you'd need to drive over to Val Gardena if you wish to use the lifts.

You can drive over to Val Badia in 40 mins - so I'd choose one resort for your entire stay rather than splitting time between Val Gardena and Val Badia.

Hi,

I'd go with Steve James' suggestion. Just so you know, none of the towns/villages in Val Gardena will
"feel like a suburb congested..." They are all very charming. Ortisei is the only one with a small pedestrian zone though. My opinion is that the other two would qualify more as a village. With 4/5 nights, I'd probably stay in one location. You'll probably (most likely) get a better hotel rate staying 3 or more nights also.

We are going to try to go one night to the opera in Verona. The hotels are really pricey there during opera season. I thought we would stay 2 nights but may only stay one.
