Hiking in the Alps in October

My wife and I are planning a trip to Switzerland/Italy/Slovenia for early-mid October (two weeks). We really want to do some hiking in the Alps, but are a little concerned about the weather. Will we be able to get to good hiking areas? Will the hiking be hiking or mountaineering? Our goal is to find one or more day-hikes - nothing too serious, but not necessarily a stroll in the park either.

Thanks for your help!

Hi deedle,

Here's a link to a trip report that Ingo took to the Engadin in Switzerland in Oct 05:

He said it was a **wonderful** time to go, and he always does some hiking. It should give you a good idea of what to expect.

Don't worry, there are many levels of hiking trails. Most are walking freindly. Few are of the Mountain climbing kind.

Not sure if some of those mountain cables and lifts wil be open in Rocktober.

I usually do the hiking and walking trails in late August and September. The best weather can be found that time of year, except last summer.

Swandav said should be ok in Rocktober. If she said it, I'd believe it :)
