hiking in murren adivce
Hi my name is Peter. My friend and I have decided to spend a few days in the Murren in August and would like some recommendation on hikes in the area (going away from murren is possible as long as train ride is less then hour). We prefer hikes with excellent views throughout the hike over hikes where the main attraction is the destination itself. No to very little forests and easy to moderate difficulty and with a duration of perhaps 3-4 hours.
The one we chose was Walk 8003 - Mürren - Gimmelwald - Stechelberg http://www.walkingswitzerland.com/wa..._descrip/8003/ If there are hikes with better views please post recommendations. Someone recommended Walk 8002 - Grütschalp - Winteregg - Mürren http://www.walkingswitzerland.com/wa..._descrip/8002/ Has anyone been on this hike and how is it? Thank you for your time. |
Has anyone been on this hike and how is it?>
Murren to Grutschalp is a snap - flat and mainly near the cliff's edge but at a safe distance - a very popular walk - at Winteregg there is a famous restaurant with belevedre - viewing terrace - it is known especially for its farmers omlettes Murren to Gimmelwald is also a snap - just a few miles at most and downhill - a paved path that is easy - going down to Stechelberg is more demanding - going down can be hard on the body as going up due to lots of braking required. |
Peter, this is like asking what flavour of ice cream should I buy. There are simply too many choices and all of them taste great anyway.

Don't plan too much. Just go to Muerren and decide there! You will then see that Muerren - Gimmelwald - Stechelberg is probably the less attractive of all trails in the area. The trails starting at Allmendhubel are much better.

We loved our walk from Allmendhubel down to Murren. We had our picnic by a small waterfall, dipped our toes in the water. Ahhh...great memories.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of the hikes in that area...the beauty is unsurpassed. Be sure to make time to sit and take in the breath taking views from Murren, watch the para-gliders floating down to the valley below. Great fun. |
See if any of the ones we did during our week in Wengen interest you. Travel report with blog link:

I thought the views from Grutschalp to Winteregg stunning. It's an easy walk, and even with lots of stops to take photos, took about an hour as I recall. I thought the stretch from Winteregg to Murren much less satisfactory. For most of that part of the trail, one walks on a path beside the rail tracks with minimal views (they are blocked by trees and one side and by a retaining wall and hillside on the other). And there's almost no shade on that stretch. I'd walk from Grutschalp to Winteregg and then take the train.

......therefore I suggested to start at Allmendhubel instead of Muerrren
