High speed train connection between Munich and Venice

I am planning a trip to Italy in September/October and I was wondering if there is a high speed train between Munich and Venice. We will be flying back from New Delhi, India and will probably be flying Lufthansa into Munich. I wanted to avoid another flight connection between Munich and Venice...the train would be more scenic!

Thanks in advance.

There is a direct train that departs Munich at 11:30 am and arrived in Venice (Santa Lucia station) at 18:10 pm. Six hours 40 minutes. I didn't check the return direction, but there is likely something similar. I think it is too early to book for September now, but price for trips in the next month start at 53 euro.

You can view the schedules and prices at www.bhan.de (available in English, just change at the top).

Thanks enzian....I am still debating if we should take the train or just connect by flight to Venice, I don't think we will be up for a six/seven hour train ride after the long flight from India. I think I need to work on the time schedule a little more.

Just wondering if you took the train from Munich to Milan? I am investigating the same route for October 2010. Thanks.

Munich via Innsbruck and Brennero Pass to Verona - change to trains to Milan. Probably about 5-6 hours as there are no high-speed, in the current European sense, going thru the Austrian and northern Italian Alps nor to Milan from Verona.

Check out the bahn.de site enzian recommends and which i always use because it is the easiest i have found to get schedules for all over Europe.

Beginning at 07:31, every two hours at :31 there's the EC (EuroCity) that requires a change in Verona, taking 7:09 hrs or more for the entire journey.

The nightrain CNL 363 leaves at 21:03 and arr. Venice S.L. at 06:38 - no switches en route (but a total of 15 stops - earplugs are recommended)

There are no real budget flights, Air Berlin is usually the "cheapest", a 5-hour two-hopper for well over 200 Euros.

The German site offers routes by train via Villach (on the border) where you can change to a bus for Venice. No prices given.

You need to stipulate the "via Verona Porta Nuova" option to get trains all the way.

The German site doesn't post the fare on these cross-border routes.

However, the Italian site www.ferroviedellostato.it reveals a fare of 89Euros for the night train leaving München Hauptbahnhof (called Monaco Centrale in Italian) at 21:03 and arr. in Venezia Santa Lucia at 09:35.

In typical ornery fashion the website refuses to bring up any of the other connections - neither in Italian nor in English. Still, 89Euros gives you an idea.

Try using www.sbb.ch as you can purchase a ticket through them. The train arrives at 06.38 not at the time indicated above.
