High end Cotswold's hotels
 

We will be spending three days in the Cotswold's in late July and will be travelling by car. I've looked at web sites for Buckland Park Manor near Broadway, Paradise Inn in Bath and the Manor House in Chipping Campden. Has anyone stayed in these Inns? They are very expensive and I'm wondering if they are worth it. We want to be close to a town with restaurants, etc. but not in the middle of the bussle. Please advise.

Haven't stayed in any of those, but one of my favorite hotels EVER is the Burford House in Burford. Not really high end, but beautifully decorated, very comfortable, and really amazing breakfasts. Burford is also a charming town with several very good restaurants (the Bay Tree, the Lamb, the Angel and the Golden Phoenix come to mind), a good bakery and delicatessen for preparing picnics, some antique shops, etc.

Hi- I have not stayed in any of the hotels you listed..but a good friend did stay at LYGON ARMS in Broadway and did NOT want to leave- she said it was fantastic....

We did stay at LORD OF THE MANOR in Upper Slaughter ( Cotswolds-near Stow on Wold) and it was nice but NOT worth the money-- BUT the restaurant at LORD of the MANOR is FABULOUS and NOT TO BE MISSED...The room rate included Breakfast and dinner but dinner was a very limited menu vs the main menu and in order to try a lot of the specialties, there were BIG upcharges which really irked us....But it was worth it!!

Outside of Bath , we stay at Homewood Park - but the accomodations were just so so===maybe because we needed a room on the first floor---but it was a huge room overlooking the garden but the decoration was not up to most Manor Houses that we have stayed at in the past....


And a really neat place that we stayed at was Fosse Farmhouse in Chippenham...the owner,Caron Cooper, is both a chef and an antiques dealer- her breakfasts take place in a FRENCH country cottage...Make sure you get a ROOM in the MAIN HOUSE as the other rooms above an outer building were just so-so....But one of the neatest things was making sure you reserved ahead of time for her dinners-which are FABULOUS! She used to have a cooking show on the BBC and is a super chef!!! This is a funky place and really NOT a manor house but more a feeling of a OLD country home in the COUNTRY- it is on a small ROMAN ROAD ( ie. one way road! ) which was a hoot to go down to get to a pub to have dinner that she recommended for dinner- we stayed there 2 nites...We had a blast! This country inn is DEFINITELY in the middle of nowhere but on the road to everything....

You should definately look into the Lygon Arms in Broadway. We stayed there in 2000 and were quite pleased.

Also stayed at the Lygon Arms, and liked it very much.

And if you're going in the direction of Bath, have a look at Lucknam Park. Exceptional hotel (Relais & Chateaux property).
