Hi! How exactly to go from Heathrow Airport UK to Portsmouth UK

Hi. In my previous post I asked suggestions about my trip from the US to board a cruise docked in Portsmouth UK. I received great suggestions. Now that I do have my airplane tickets, I will be arriving to Heathrow Airport, UK.

Can you guys tell me exactly how to get from the airport to Portsmouth? Once I exit my plane?

I know there is a bus and a train. Either way is fine with me, but I need specific instructions if anyone here knows. Also, should I buy my train or bus tickets online from the US? Any other thing you think of?

Thank you, guys, for your recommendations.

There is no direct train. I assume you'll have 'cruise luggage' (like quite a bit) - right? Take the National Express coach . . . bus/train would be faster but you'd have to schlepp the bags from bus to train and then on to the train and into the luggage racks. On the bus the bags go in the hold and you don't touch them til Portsmouth.

Thank you! Yes, the luggage!. I am trying to only bring a medium suitcase, and a carry on. Will see how that goes. I will research your suggestion. Thanks!

The reason I suggested flying into Gatwick instead of Heathrow was because there isn't a direct coach to Portsmouth from Heathrow (at least, not in April). You'll have to change at Victoria Coach Station, plus there are only three coaches a day. Still easier than having to change train stations in London.

Hello thursday. Yes! I tried, very hard to find a flight there, but I could not get one. So, at the end Heathrow was my option. Thank you.

Use this site https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

Choose From Heathrow Bus To Portsmouth & Southsea

You can book a through ticket from Heathrow > Woking > Portsmouth

The first part of the journey is by coach then, train.

You can choose between cheaper inflexible Advance tickets or flexible Off-Peak/Anytime tickets.

Yes, Gatwick is the most convenient -- but reason I didn't specifically recommend Gatwick is that it essentially closed down at the beginning of covid and has only partially resumed regular traffic. There are very few US > LGW flights yet. So for most parts of the US it isn't a viable alternative.

Now I see Portsmouth coaches connect at Victoria. Instead of transferring through central London you could take the express coach to Southampton - Takes just under 2 hours and its non-stop. You could stay in Southampton a few days and use it s a base to tour around/along the coast by bus and trains, then its a quick trip over to Portsmouth for your cruise. This would be the least stressful/least transfers/least schlepping.

Gatwick North was open during the pandemic with reduced capacity. Gatwick South reopened end of March. I’d say that regular traffic has mostly resumed, unfortunately regular staffing levels at LGW & LHR for that matter does not appear to have resumed which is causing current chaos at some U.K. airports.

BA fly from Tampa & Orlando to Gatwick as well as JetBlue JFK-LGW and soon BOS-LGW. VS won’t resume any services from LGW to anywhere this year. AA offer flights MIA-LGW with a stop in TPA. There were never that many services US-LGW anyway.

Thank you all for your assistance, and suggestions regarding my issue. I am happy to report that I will be using a private service that was recommended to me from another forum. They will pick me up at Heathrow and deliver me straight to my hotel in Portsmouth. I will keep you all posted, and will let you know how it went. THANKS!:rose:
