Herzogenaurach Germany
 

Going to a town called Herzogenaurach in Franconia Section of Germany in April with my husband. Need a nice place to stay. Was checking out Hotel Krone and Hotel Stadtblick

Any one have information on this town and hotels?

Also thinking of going week before Easter. Is that a bad time to go with Lent?

Never heard of the place, so looked it up and found this site which might be of some help in planning your trip:

Hersogenaquchrach is near Fuerth-Nuernberg. I have not been there, but have been to places worth visiting: Nuernberg, Erlangen, Bamberg.

The top hotel is the Herzogspark, rated "top class comfort" one degree belowe the top rating in the Red Michelin Guide (My "bible" for hotels in Europe). If would definitely consider staying thwere. (Faxfrom the US:49-9132-40430. Other hotels listed in the Guide: Akazienhaus (breakfast only), Auracher Hof, Gaestehaus in der Engelstrasse. These are rated "Quite comfortable", 3 grades below the Herzogspartk. Hotel Krone and Stadtblick are not listed.

Unfortunately, there is no listing for a tourist office.

Herzogenauchrach is just a few km from Erlangen, which is a well known university city and has many hotels of a wide range of accomodatiuons. For details contact the tourist office: Tourist Information, FAX (from the US) 49-9131-895151. You can write in English; most of these places have someone on their staff who speaks English. From the looks of it, there is proably good public transportation between H.and E.

Germany is generally Catholic in the south and protestant in the north. I don't know where Herzogenaurach is but if it is in a Catholic area things will be closed on Good Friday, Saturday and Easter.

Further to AisleSeat's comment: Franconia is catholic. Easter has 2 days of holidays in most of Germany, Sunday and Monday.
