Hertz: pay in US to avoid deductibles???
I called Hertz recently to confirm a reservation in Italy. Rep said if we paid in US, rather than when we picked up car, we'd avoid collision and theft deductibles. Never heard of this before; in the past everything was covered in Italy. Anybody encounter this or did I get bad info?

I thought that the insurance was required for a rental in Italy. I would check the fine print. If you dont mind me asking what did they quote you? Did you check with autoeurope or kemwel?

Grandma,
I really think Hertz was referring to the deductible that one must pay for repairs before the insurance kicks in,
around $400-600. Deductibles are the rule rather than the exception for rentals in many countries.

thanks for the input. Since insurance is required in Italy, we've always assumed it covered everything. We once had a fender bender in Ravello, but it produced no cost to us.
We're renting a 4 dr standard for 14 days with everything(??) included for about $726. didn't check the other companies (which we've used very satsifactorily on other occasions)because we wanted a drop off in Orvieto.. and Hertz seemed to be the only alternative.

How long does it take for the auto bill from Hertz to show up on one's credit card. We rented Autoeuorpe (Hertz)in Rome 8/5 returned Munich 8/12 to train station. They haven't charged my cc yet. Am anxious to see if I have any hidden charges. Thanks

Aren't you lucky?!! Credit card transactions have become so efficient we usually arrive home after a trip to find the results of our extravagances on the doorstep!
