Hertz and DCC

I have heard that Hertz has a built in DCC in their agreements for cars rented at Heathrow. I have rented through, and therefore paid AutoEurope, but will I get DCC applied to the VLF/Road Tax of 1.56 GBP per day? Can I ask successfully to pay in local currency. I am returning the car in Glasgow if that makes any difference.

I certainly wouldn't worry about DCC on charges of £1.56 per day. What could it amount to? £2?

It wouldn't even amount to that much, usually it's about 5 pct or so, I believe.

Why couldn't you pay in local currency, though, if you want.

As I said on ANOTHER thread, WHEN I lasted rented from Hertz at LHR, DCC was built into their contract. That MAY have changed.

I agree that for the stated amount I wouldn't worry.

As to whether or not you can "pay in local currency" for ANYTHING, my understanding has always been that if you are using a credit card and you are told you must pay in your home currency you should annotate the bill with the words, "local currency payment option refused by this vendor."

Yes, I was thinking that cash would be an option. It isn't the money, it just pi##es me off that they set out to take advantage of their customers.

I believe it's called "Capitalism".
